i slapped on my new wheels and tires today and went for a little beat run. everything seemed fine then i was cruising along in 2nd gear and shifted down to 1st. as soom as i pulled the clutch in it had a lot of play in it and i couldn't get into any gear. both the lever and cable were very loose. i played around with both and when i got them to tighten up the clutch lever was pulling it self in towards the handle bars. played around with it some more and it just loosened up again.

so i pushed it to where i could tow it home. grabbed my truck and went back to get it. and to my surprise...the clutch was fine. i rode it back to my house, shifting thru the gears, and everything seemed fine.

what happened? i would think i need to do some adjustments to the clutch and made lube up the cable. what do you guys think?

Sounds like the ball and rod...  usuually, the cable going slack is a sure bet....  Unless the adjuster frigged up on the pressure plate.....

what can i do to fix it so it won't happen again? where abouts is the ball and rod?

well...it looks like its the clutch cable. i took it off and tried lubing it up. i threw it back on and the samething is happening. i'm pretty sure its the cable because when it sticks i can free it up by wiggling the cable.

and just my luck...the local yamaha dealer doesn't have one in stock :shootself:. since i'm going to have to wait a few days...i might as well go with an aftermarket one. any suggestions on a good replacement clutch cable?

:edit for dumbass mistake:
