Minkia38 Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 ok - once upon a time before I had a RZ350 motor in my banshee, i had a regular 350 with a cool head on it. anyways, the left side would always pop out when ridings around i never figgured it out anyways, so i put the new motor in (new EVERYTHING - cylinders, bottomend, flywheel, ALL electrical - EVERYTHING), and it was fine until yesterday the left side popped out on mE! I tightened it very snug - just like usual - and i rod ethe rest of the day no problem so what the heck man???? i know other people have had the same problem too.... Quote
evil Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 are the threads in the head still in tact ? or are they just enough to seal it but not tighten it down properly ? and when you say pop out do you mean the plug is backing out or the plug wire is poping off ? Quote
boonman Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 I am guessing that the plug is backing out. Detonation is what usually causes this. Or, using old plugs. Or, improper torque.... Quote
Minkia38 Posted April 12, 2004 Author Report Posted April 12, 2004 Yeah, I mean backing out, then flying out of the hole old plugs? well I havent changed them in a while..... the threads are all intact, and I torqued it down properly oh, 110 octane by the way thanks for the help guys Quote
BenBB Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Justintoxicated's bike was doing the same thing @ Dumont, the plugs were brand new and tight, not real sure what the problem was but Indubitably's bike had a solution; one of those Trinity plug locks... Quote
broke Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 It's strange that this seems to be happening alot. Mine developed this nasty habit on Saturday, it's also an RZ head. I need to look into the plug locks. broke Quote
Ducman Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 Just a thought. Once you take a plug out once, the washer has alredy been smashed, when you put the plug back in, it won't seat quite the same as new again. This hasn't ever caused me any problems though. Were these all brand new plugs only installed for the first time or had they ever been removed for inspection before? Had the heads that are having the plugs back out had many, many sets of plugs installed after a lot of years of use? Quote
bignasty1 Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 my bike would do the same thing. i replaced the dome, ran race gas set my timing back to stock made sure the plugs were new and snug and the damn left side would pop out. i dont know what the deal was but it has cost me a top end. i had to stop every 15 minutes of riding to check and make sure it only took a few seconds but that still ment i had to catch up with my riding group. i dont know what the deal was my pistons looked good till i didnt catch it one day and it sucked air and burnt my left side up but the right side was perfect. Minkia38 Posted April 13, 2004 Author Report Posted April 13, 2004 well, this plug certainly has been in and out alot....... plug lock: i bought a trinity one - pain in the ass to line up - so i just said forget it, also i heard that if your plugs backs out, there is something wrong (ir too much compressions, timing....), and installing the plug locks will just worsen the problem - makes sense.... my head is like new - barely used (well probably not since 1985 or so) Quote
boonman Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 I do not have a problem. And what I was sayin, Ducman laid out perfectly. ABout the crush washer.... I am running 185 lbs. or so of compression, and 50-50 race/pump fuel and I do not have a problem with that.... So I doubt compression is the issue.... I also run +4 advance.... Quote
