89NOS Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 I have a 89 shee, bought it w/NOS kit installed. Never used the NOS yet but previous owner has. Started checking into motor/carb/crank condition etc. and they had this shee set up like CRAP! I now have it running perfect, starts on first kick, fast as hell! Ported polished, wiseco pistons, cool head, bored over, dual K&N filters, boyesen reeds. I re-wired and plumbed the NOS and rigged a good switch inside the twist throttle for NOS activation. NOW, I'm ready to hit the switch, but after reading a posting that talks about needing forged pistons and welded crank and all kinds of other stuff. SHOULD I EVEN THINK ABOUT HITTING THE "BUTTON"??? I want to use it but don't want to blow my motor, planning a 5 day camping/riding trip soon. Thanks for the help. Tate Quote
rzcolobanshee Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 You definetly need forged pistons and your crank welded. You may need a lockup clutch too. Watch the jetting, if you're a little lean when you spray be ready to rebuild Quote
89NOS Posted April 7, 2004 Author Report Posted April 7, 2004 RZ are you pretty savvy on NOS? If so I may have to track you down and have you take a look at it just to see what you think. I don't have the money for the whole forged pistons, welded crank, lockup clutch etc. I do have a fuel pump hooked up in line and everything, and running 290's for jets. So if it's really that serious I may not even use the NOS. DAMN!! Thanks man! Quote
rzcolobanshee Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 No I wouldn't say I'm savvy lol...i just know what it takes but have never set it up. I definetly wouldn't touch the stuff until you have the motor built up to handle it Quote
MotulMonsta Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 AHH Fuckit..Hit that button and let her rip! Run that bitch to the ground! You can always rebuild later..Think of the fun..NITROUS...Some a fo tha machine...Some a fo me! Quote
MULLET~BOY Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 retard your timing like 2 degrees from whats its set at make sure your spot on for jetting then hit the button and let her rip if you don't want the nos feal free to send it to me Quote
yama-dude Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 wiseco pistons are forged, aren't they?? Good luck, sounds like a crazy ride Quote
MRMOONEY Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 yes, and i would bet if its PORTED the crank is already welded, do you know how big of a shot the nos is set for? dont go over 30 horse. also retard the timing a tad like mentioned before might also wana turn the timing down a bit. and maybe go up a jet size or 2 justy to make sure it wont lean out. good luck hey its only money right, never know till ya try Quote
89NOS Posted April 8, 2004 Author Report Posted April 8, 2004 Now I'm torn between... I'll probably have to wait until the last day I'm out there just in case. The crank is not welded, and I actually just advanced the timing so I'll have to retard it again and put in my larger jets. I'm not sure what the shot is set up for, what do you mean by that? the pressure, the volume discharged, the bottle size, what? Thanks guys! Quote
Yamahammer Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 I have no idea how it works on a bike but i am assuming sam as a car set up. I would make sure the fuel pump and all are working properly you can test this by turning the nitrous off at the bottle and start the engine and hit the button this should introduce gas only and kill the bike or make it run really rich, so them you know atleast you are somewhat safe as far as extra gas getting added. At the same time with the bottle off check the nitrous cylinoid with the bike running and make sure you fell it click hold youre hand on it while you hit the button (REMEMBER WITH THE BOTTLE OFF).. if all that checks out turn the bottle on go for a ride make sure you are atleast half throttle and tap the button see how it responds if good things happen you are ok, I would guess if you did not abuse it youre set up would be ok but it will not last as long as as a non nos motor everytime you hit the button you are going to be taking life out of it so use it when you need it not just guffing off,, My 0.02 Quote
