cdcoxwell Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Just received the statar and trying to install on an 87'. The box it came in stated it was for an 87'-94' 200watt statar. It is an extremely tight fit. Is this normal and if so what can I do to install it so that I don't damage the statar??? Thx, Quote
erbilabuc Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 if its the adjustable kind you can take a file and grind off a little at a time until it fits. They have an oversized cast that they make those in and its for that purpose because some peoples are that much differnt. Just grind the edges that are stopping it from going in until it goes in. nater006 Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 I put mine in yesterday and it was a really tight fit also. Filed down the edges slightly and now its perfect. Quote
jeffro189 Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 mine was the same way, i had to file mine down also. fit perfectly now Quote
ledofthezep Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Had to file mine a bit too. Don't forget to adjust the pickup coil. Quote
J-Madd Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Had to file mine a bit too. Don't forget to adjust the pickup coil. How do you adjust the pick-up coil? A buddy's having firing problems and that's what we think could be wrong. Quote
nater006 Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Did that yesterday, too The good thing is you just have to remove the stator side cover and nothing else. There's 2 small screws that hold the pickup away from the flywheel magnets. You want it .015-.025 I believe.. rotate the flywheel so a magnet is underneath the pickup, just stuff a feeler gauge in there, adjust it, and tighten it back down. Set of feelers will run you $1-4 at any auto store. Quote
cdcoxwell Posted April 7, 2004 Author Report Posted April 7, 2004 Thx guys, just wanted to be sure b/f I started filing away. Btw, don't be shy, feel free to elaborate on adjusting the pick-up coil!!! Quote

I think we came to the conclusion on one of my old posts about the width needed if ya don't have a feeler guage...pretty sure it came down to the width of a matchbook's flap. Quote
nater006 Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Yeah, really nothing to it. You'll see. I loosened the two screws (no need to take them out), put the feeler inbetween the magnet and pickup, moved the pickup, and then tightened them down. Once you get the cover off, it takes only a moment to do. You don't even have to take the shift lever off -- just rotate the cover up and out of the way. Quote
