sandnureyez Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 Im about to change my gearing on my shee. my friends are telling me too many different things on gearing and they are by no means banshee gurus like people on the HQ. here is what im running right now I have a full race port job head is milled 80 thousands 34mm pjs in frame cpi pipes +4 swingarm thats about it. I only ride in the sand..I ride at sandmountain nv 600ft hill..whats the best geraing set up for what I have? I dont trail ride"its a banshee" WOT all the time..any sugestions would be great oh yea im running a 10'' rim with hauler 8 paddle. thanks Jeremy Quote
motohawk Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 Gearing it will depend on what it is doing now that you like/dont like. it is all a feeling thing really. If it is lacking some grunt off the bottom-mid and that is where you like your power, then add a tooth or 2 to the rear. If it is all about top end speed you want, then either go smaller on the rear or 1 tooth bigger in the front. Just 1 tooth in the front makes a big change. While I have not ridden your Banshee to see what it feels like, most modded quads and bikes I have ridden seem to like a tooth or 2 on the rear the best. The power comes to its meat a bit sooner and easier while the top end power will still be there. You just lose a few MPH, but that is no big deal. Unless you are riding mostly open desert roads and things like that, I would add to the rear. But then again you need to ask yourself this.... Do I need the power to come a bit sooner and harder? If yes, then add to the rear. Or... Does bottom end power mean anything to me???? If no, then take off a tooth or 2 from the rear "OR" and 1 to the front. Tell us about the power delivery and where you ride and lets go from there. Matt Quote
sandnureyez Posted March 30, 2004 Author Report Posted March 30, 2004 thanks for the reply..as for where the power comes in at is all up top but it doesnt seem to bog either..I basically want to stay in the power band more then having to shift too soon. right now it runs good...but I want to fine tune it. I just want to be in the power band more in 3rd and 4th. Im basically on it all the time when no draggin im mostly all over the hill.. Quote
Indubitably Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 I'm runnin 14/40 with a little less hp's so try that and if its too low try 15/40 Quote
sandnureyez Posted March 30, 2004 Author Report Posted March 30, 2004 sounds like im gonna have a few gears laying around after all this? thanks for all the info so far Quote
Blue Duece Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 id go with a 15 up front and try that depending on your horse power you might not pull 6th going straight up hill in the sand, but 3rd fourth and fifth will pull like crazy Quote
sandnureyez Posted March 30, 2004 Author Report Posted March 30, 2004 thanks for the info..im gonna get a few differnt gears..right now I have the 13 for the front and a 43 for the rear..freebie from a friend..im gonna try that then get a few more..as for now i cant pull 6th if just feels like im in and out of gears so fast..it would be nice to stay in 3rd and 4th a while longer.. Quote
Blue Duece Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 if your bike can pull a taller gear its better your accellaration comes from taller gears, i rarely use sixth in the sand but can blast up comp hill lickety split in fifth with a 17 up front and a 40 on the rear, while other guys are shiftin im pinned, besides geared to low your bike will float and stop pulling the shorter gears...... sandnureyez Posted March 31, 2004 Author Report Posted March 31, 2004 I think Im gonna try the 15 in the front for now leave the rear stock and see what happens...cause with all the work I had done is for higher rpms and I want to stay where the power is longer..dont think I will be able to ride until easter..working too much..thanks for the info Quote
yama-dude Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 I know this is the sand forum but I put a set of blackwaters on my shee because it would burn the stock tires off all the way into 6th in dirt. Well the blackwaters didn't help with traction as much as I thought they would so I changed to 15 in the front. I can still get loose but I'm alot happier now with the 15 Quote
sandnureyez Posted April 3, 2004 Author Report Posted April 3, 2004 YAMA DUDE ANY INFO IS GREATLY APPRECIATED..I got the 15 coming just have to put it on.like I said dont think I will ride before easter though..sounds like the 15 is gonna work out though..thanks again for all the help. Quote
