banshee_kid350 Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 no I dont believe you should be worried. just get some 2 stroke oil and put some on a rag and wipe the cylinder down with it this will keep the cylinder lubed for install too Quote
909 Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 You need to clean the crap out of them when you get 'em back from any shop. The dish washing detergent/water will remove any oils in there and when rinsed, will remove any residual metal from inside the cylinders. AS SOON as you've cleaned 'em you need to lightly coat the inside bore (reads iron sleeve) with a light coat of the same 2 stroke oil you will be running in the bike. The oil will keep rust out, but will attract dirt. If you're not going to immediately assemble, put them in a plastic bag and seal 'till you're ready to put it together. I also put the paper towel I used to wipe the oil into the cylinder, inside the cylinder with the residual oil still on it. This will also help keep any moisture from rusting out the bore. Since you already got a light coat of rust on there, wipe with an oily CLEAN paper towel or the blue paper shop towels work well too. You should be able to wipe any rust away at this point but do it now. Quote
bpreuss Posted March 27, 2004 Author Report Posted March 27, 2004 well it isnt really like rust, we wiped it down within five minutes of drying it, its just an odd color, im sure itll just burn off. Quote
duner Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 What your seeing is rust.Bare cast iron will start to rust instantly if not lubed as soon as you dry it. Just take som wd40 on a paper towel and wipe the cyls. down real good after you clean them up. When your ready to assemble put your 2 stroke oil on em.you'll be fine. Quote
