Well Damn!

Removing the cylinder mounting studs from my case, two snappped off at the base of the case

I was using a stud remover (socket type) and they just sheared off at the base. A third stud began to bend and actually cracked the little ring that (I believe) is used to locate the cylinders to the case. So now what to do.

I don't want to try drilling anything out myself (I will probably just end up screwwing it up)

I called a couple shops and they say that it can range from $15 to $100. Now that sux :shootself:

Does anybody have any recommendations as to where I can send my top case to in order to fix this at a reasonable price.

As for the reason that they sheared off, it looks like they were rusted in...and yes I tried to use multiple penetrators prior to attempting to remove them. The good news is that I got 5 of the 8 out! The bad news is that this is probably going to end up costing me more than it would have been to buy new cases. :shootself::cry::cry:

I am in the San Diego area if anybody has any ideas.

Thx,

T :whoa:

You may not be able to drill it yourself unless you are really skillled at doing it. You will need a center drill. You will also need some really good HSS drills. And then you will have to heat up the case. A hot wrench wworks for this. (oxy-acetylene torches). Heat does wonders...... Drill it out, heat it up, and stick an ez-out in there and give it a whirl. Or, take them to a machine shop...
