I am restoring an 87 banshee that my brother had own. To make a long story short, he was killed in a car accident and I have the bike now. Growing up I torchered people with this screaming machine. I am very familiar with the shee, though i am not with the mechanics. Shee has not been cranked in about 8 yrs. HELP!!!!! Attacking PROBLEM #1. There is no fire. What are the steps i need to take to start eliminating areas such as the c.d.i, kill switch, ignition and so forth.

Drain all of the gas. Put new plugs in. Take the carbs off and clean them. It probably wouldn't hurt to put a small amount of oil down the plug holes to lube the pistons. Kick it over a few times with the switch off to make sure everything is moving freely. Flip the switch and see what happens. There are plenty of people here who can help get that thing running.

My old 87 cdi crapped itself. Start small and check one thing at a time...It would suck to burn 400 bones on a new cdi when the problem was a 25 cent connector.

Get yourself a manual and a multi-meter. Go through all of the electrical system tests one at a time. If the system does not fail any tests, the try pulling the flywheel cover off and check the stator of rust. Check all of the connections one at a time and make sure they are clean and making good contact. Disconnect the TORS control box if the bike is so equipped, it is mounted on the same frame cross member as the coil. Good luck, and keep up posted on how you are coming along.
