reitler09 Posted March 17, 2004 Author Report Posted March 17, 2004 ok guys the shee is alive! it was my sparkplug coils..took mine off and put my uncles on and it ran like a raped ape..but heres the stumper, we put mine on his banshee and his ran fine too..but then put them back on mine and backfiring like crazy....put we put his back on mine and took it for a ride and it ran great so thats it..so my dads ordering that for me hopefully tonight so i wanna thank everyone that posted on here and esp you richybanshee and all i gotta say is thank god for bansheehq Quote
nasty01banshee Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Did you check the plugs? Also you need to use resistor type spark plugs and caps.Sounds to me like it's running lean on top. Check the spark from the plugs..if it sparks it's not electrical...Do you have any timing advance? Use a set of BR8es, as opposed to B8es..yes it does make a diffrence. Use a set of BR8es, as opposed to B8es..yes it does make a diffrence. What is the difference between those two plugs? '02 and up banshee ignitions spec the BR8ES plugs(resistor type) you can use the BR8ES in '01 and older banshees as i do, but they don't recommend using B8ES(non-resistor) in '02 and up banshee's... boonman Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 On older analog ignitions like the stock, there is no processor, and no problem if there is noise Then why oh why does EVERY Yamaha banshee come factory equipped with "loaded" plug caps? Could it be to stop interference to the STOCK CDI??? Just curious. I run "R" style plugs in my bike, because I don't run factory caps and as we all know, interference is a bad, bad thing. And because it doesn't cost anything extra to get "R" type plugs, why not run them? What is the deal here? If Stock Yammy ignition systems don't need resistance to cancel noise on their ignition, than why waste the time with a loaded cap? So, Brad, my question to you is, Why does Yamaha run loaded caps on the Banshee from the factory if they don't need them? Quote
bradrs Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Resistor plugs and plug caps don't really hurt spark energy too much, and will cut down on electrical noise generated. Maybe they put the resistor cap in because they needed it with the non resistor plug spec'd in the manual? I was speaking more in general terms, I should have been more clear. Generally, older stuff can get away with non resistor parts because they don't have processors that are more likely to have problems with the noise generated. I haven't tested a banshee with stock ignition and non resistor parts to see how the stock ignition works with the extra noise because quite honestly, it doesn't matter to me what you can get away with on the stock ignition as far as non resistor parts. I am more worried about how the dyna ignition responds to the noise, for obvious reasons Why did you switch to a non resistor plug cap? Was it part of some aftermarket wires? Brad Quote
boonman Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I liked the sealing properties and overall quality of the NGK plug cap vs. the factory part. Just a flukey thing. I had a coil go out, and bought a new one. But, from mother Yamaha's stealerships, they don't come with caps. They are purchased seperately..... Quote
