g-dub Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 i just got this bike on trade. it runs fine, and shifts fine under normal use, but when i try to drag, i struggle to hit 3rd and 4th. i can't accelerate fully and go through the gears, i have to let off for it to fall in to gear. any suggestions, i dont know where to start. thanks Quote
FoxBansheeRacing Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Mine was doing the same thing so I changed the tranny oil. That seemed to help some. Another thing is that if you dont relieve all the pressure on the shifter before trying to shift again, sometimes it doesnt want to shift right. Quote
sredish Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 As long as your clutch is good, I would also start with the oil. I use silkolene light comp oil and have really good luck. There are tons of different oils to use, try several and see how it goes. Quote

MotulMonsta Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 It could be a number of issues. Clutch adjustment like ol dude above me said or the internal forks and grooves on the cam are worn. Also the dogs on the graes could be worn. My shee has issues going into third. But it's a beat on old 87 motor and everything inside it is worn. Quote

I've heard there are a few on here that can do it or send it somewhere like duncan racing (25.00) .. It takes pressure off the detent spring which helps shifting from gear to gear..Also helps finding neutral when you are using heay duty clutch springs.. Just a thought Quote
350duner Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Shift star mod. You can send it off or do it yourself on the grinder (harder to back-cut neutral that way though). Mine had the exact same problem, I had to let all the way off to get it to go into gear when drag racing. The shift star mod seems to do the trick. Quote

g-dub Posted March 10, 2004 Author Report Posted March 10, 2004 Thanks, everyone for the info. I changed my oil, and found it a little low. I run motul transoil 10/30, because thats what the dude i got the bike from suggested. It seems to shift noticable smoother, but i have yet to get it to the beach to see if its really better. I also got a hold to Boonman, and i think I'll send my shift star up to him. Dub Quote
