MotulMonsta Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Motul 800mx it is formulated to reduce the chances of the throttle sticking during wet conditions...says it right on the bottle. Do you lube your throttle cable? If you do, it that gunk traveling down the wire and depositing itself on the carb slides causen them to stick. Clean the carb slide up and it should be good, next replace the throttle cabe and don't lube it. A dry cable stays clean. Motion pro make a teflon lined cable that doesn't require lubing..infact petrolium products ruin teflon's ability to provide a frictionless serface by causing it to swell. In short don't lube teflon lined parts. They will wear out faster. Quote

nater006 Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Hehe... Just ran into this LAST NIGHT. Getting ready for spring... anyway... lubed the throttle cable a week ago but didn't ride it. It wasn't sticking bad but kept idling higher and higher and I'm like "WTF!" Took it apart and cleaned everything up real well --including the gunk that had dripped down into the carbs -- and it fixed it up perfectly. Didn't even think about that until after I had lubed it. Go figure.. Oh yeah.. didn't know I shouldn't lube that cable till now Clutch cable is usually the breakage culprit on machines with me (especially my 900RR!) so went crazy and lubed everything on it...hehehe. I'll try cleaning the slides that does make a lot of sense. I tried searching for this topic but couldnt find it, kept getting an error. Quote
MotulMonsta Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 If it's a stock throttle cable it won't hurt it untill dirts starts to get in there. The Teflon lined cables are the ones you can't lube. Teflon will keep the cable from rusting together and also reduce friction so it doesn't need any lubrication. Don't clean Teflon cables with any harsh petrolium based cleaners. Oh and the clutch cable has an exit for the lube to run out from..the throttle cable doesn't..well it does, but that's right on top if your slides wich causes the above mentioned conditions. Quote
