I was woundering about certain engin mods, Im planning what all ima do to my shee once I get started on it...

I need to know how reliable power valves are and how efective they are..What exactly do they do? Could I still run pump gas?

Do long rods improve reliability? Do they make an increase in power or torque?

Do stroker cranks make a verry big diffrence in power or reliability? Whats the diffrence between a stroker and a long rod?

Thats all of the questions I had that I can think of right now, if I think of some more I'll post them also..

Any info any 1 has on any of these subjects it would be greatly appreciated..

Thx.

I can't help you with the power valve question. <_<

Long rods are what they say a longer rod than stock. It improves reliability by decreasing the angle on the bearings. It may give you a tad more torque, but nothing to write home about.

A stroker will give you a big increase in power and torque, as for reliability I don't know. The crank is bigger in diamater causing the pistion to travel further inside the cylinder. Increasing the displacement and bringing in more intake and puting out more exhaust. With a stroker crank the bottom of the case needs to be trenched to accompany the bigger crank.

I'am new at this so I may be work with some things and I appoligze. Please correct me if I'am wrong, but I hope this helps.

Yes thank you very much that does help...

Any one have any information bout the power valve?

Also I have seen long rod stroker cranks, would that give you more power with the added reliability?

Any help is appreciated..

Thx.

Powervalve for a Shee will require a whole new cylinder setup. It ain't cheap. As for long rods. They will increase your low end tq and HP..but due to the larger mass you will loose rpms and top end power. Everything has trade offs. The best and cheapest thing for you to do would be a set of aftermarket pipes, proflow intake system with a vented airbox lid. Remove the snorkel rejet and get a set of V-force reeds. You will not be sorry with this setup. Everything after that will require lots o money. porting polishing. Don't buy an aftermarket head unless your doing some mean shit. you'll be wasting money. as for cooling a pro design impeller will do wonders. I run a milled stock head and I don't have overheating issues..plus stock heads can be found used for cheap should you warp one.

Oh yeah..pipes will run around 600 bucks..GET TOOMEY'S T-6

V-force reeds around 250 bones.

so under a grand you'll gain around 15-20 hp or so most likely more. The pipes should be step one. spend the extra for crome. as bare metal requires a lot more work to keep looking nice. Don't waste your money on a boost bottle or octane boosters. they won't work. plud boost bottles will wear out your throttle cables and chaffe your wiring and hoses.

As for power valves...it prettymuch an adjustable exhaust port. it will add low end and top end power. FMF make a cylinder setup for close to 2,000 beans..so does Trinity. If you happen across an old RZ350 buy it and use that motor. A banshee is an RZ minus the powervalves.

Yes I have been looking into the RZ heads for a while..

Don't the RZ engins use diffrent gearing then the shee? From what I understood, they would bolt right onto a shee motor, just have to mount the battery some where..

I have alot of money that I have saved for this project, I also have a 03 YZ 85 im selling to help also.

I planed on getting a p/p, noss head (not sure what size domes, (I am right at sea level), cpi inframe's cause I hear they make more power on ported engins and toomeys are disigned for a non ported engin?

Im not to sure on a carb set up though,I was looking into the 2 into 1 carb set up but I talked ot a few people that said that they didn't seem to flow enough gas for a ported and piped engin? So im still not clear on that...

I was just woundering what would be the benifits of the stroker or the long rod or the long rod stroker and the pv.

Yes I have been lookin at all the power valves, I see how exspensive they are, im am looking to save as much maney as I can, but im not just looking for "cheap mods" I want as much power I can get with as much reliability I can get while still running on pump gas..

I also wounder who does good reliable porting?

I was looking at patriot and Whiteknuckle....

Thx again for your help.

Send your motor to Trinity. Or LRD. I had mine ported/ polished by a local shop. they did good work. You can do it youself if you had a good dremel and the templates. I'm running Vito's power piston. Milled head Toomey pipes Adv. timing Bored 60 over stock V-force reeds Kehnin 28mm pwk's Oh and Motul 800mx premix. It makes gobs of power, infact I have to put my heavy duty clutch springs back in because the damn clutch slips.

I belive you can swap the gears straight over from shee to RZ so that wouldn't be an issue. You don't need a battery..wait the powervalves should be cable actuated from what I remember. It's been years since I've seen an rz. Fmf and Trinity uses exhaust pressure to actuate their powervaves..I belive the RZ uses cables and a gear or somthing of the sort.

I would say go for the powervave setup..it's expensive but will increase your overall power. Long rods done right will not affect reliability. You can get a long rod big bore kit to really bump up those ponies.

LOng roda are simple as they increase the stroke of the motor with proper crankshaft mods and a larger stroke means more displacement...more displacement means more horsepower. If you do it right you won't have reliability issues. When I rebuilt my motor it lasted for over 3 years..but that was before I was racing. I rebuild it once a year now just to identify problems before they become too big of a problem. Plus I like to experiment with new things and it's fun.
