"thenewguy" Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 i saw an ad in the paper, a 91 banshee that deasont run and is missing the rear brake caliper. its a kid who is probably about 18 and is not the orignal owner. i havent gone to check it out yet. hes about 2 hours away. he said it just stoped workin before the winter so he got the pistons and rings replaced. wich is funny because if he got that done why didnt he just get it working? lol. its got few after market parts on it, pouder coated frame "yellow". he want 1500 but i was going to make an offer for 1200. does this sould like a bad price for something that isnt running? i know you cant really make a good judgment by that but... what i wanted to know is when i go there i wanna try to do some testing on it to see if it could actually be fixed. whats the most amount of money these repairs could cost? is it better to just not even bother. what can i test for? also i seen that some one here is selling a stator, light plugs,di box,the silver box the coil, the kill switch, and a flywheel and a few other things for 200. its from a 97 banshee, would this stuff fit on a 91? or could i get the part, or parts i need cheaper? lot of questions but any information would be great. links and books are also good. thanks Quote
ruff_rida69 Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 I've got that same problem right now, my CDI started going out and I rebuilt the whole motor and now it does'nt work period, and I've tested everything and its gotta be the cdi, I would just take a pocket tester and check the coil, stator, and the wiring harness the best you could, and see if you find any problems, it could be he just does'nt know what the heck hes doing, I would check the carbs, slides, spark plugs, gas, and maybe the kill switch and see if you can find anything, it might seem like alot but I would do it before I forked over $1500 for something I have no clue why it's not running, I'm sure some others on here can give you some more suggestions. banshee0044 Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 an engine needs 3 things to run...fuel, igniton, and compression if you go check it out...kick it over and listen for compression...pull the spark plug wires and check for some spark (just ground them to the cylinder head....kick it over and just listen to it...sometimes it obvious sometimes its not (if you hear chattering then that could cost some money i've been taking a class on engines and sh*t and basically when i repair anything..i check for all three components it only takes a minuet or two make sure its got oil in the crankcase and that the gas is being mixed right also ..i paid 1400 for a 96 banshee that runs great...1200 may be a little high for something that doesnt run..but my pockets aren't too deep lol hope that helps Quote
