zzzz Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 I did a rebuild 2 days ago, but my torque wrench was messed up. Anyways, I need to retorque the cylinders and the head. Can I reuse the head gasket or do I need a new one? Thanks. Quote
je90z Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 Are you using o-rings,or gaskets? Quote
tithead Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 best to get a new 1 just in case Quote
fixitrod Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 If you pulled the head off, I'd get a new one. If it flattened out in a spot, gets moved just a little and then you bolt it on different, it could leak. I'd also suggest a stock head gasket. They seal much better since they embed a sealant in the gasket. Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 yea get a new one, if you torque it down to the point where it would start imprinting on the gasket, you best get a new one for 5 bucks Quote
sandman121383 Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 get a torque wrench and the gasket. the torque specs are important and if u follow them u can prevent leaks when ur done. think about it u'll have to do it all over again and buy a new gasket anyways if it leaks. good luck with it man Quote
sredish Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 Are you using o-rings,or gaskets? if it's an oring head, then inspect. if okay, reuse. If its a paper gasket, then by all means buy a new one, never reuse a paper gasket. The oring is designed to be reused, as long as it's not nicked or anything, nice and smooth is what you want. Quote
