My '97 shee starts missing on the left cylinder when I get to about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle when it's just sitting. When I'm riding at glamis it runs great for about the first 15 minutes of riding. It does not overheat but it has to sit for atleast an hour before it will run strong again. I have t-5's, 340 main jets and k&n filters. As far as I know, the rest of the motor is stock. any input would be helpful. Thanks.

what do your plugs look like?? u havent noticed any aluminum or nething on them have u ?? if so then the bike is to lean and has melted the piston. as for it running hot are u runnin anitfreeze in the bike? or the water pump impellar could be messing up so i would pull the clutch cover and check the gear on the inside the cover as well as the impeller. and sometimes i miss fire can be cause by a fouled plug or an air leak and believe me and air leak is one hard mofo to track down sometimes.

 

 

 

ps your plugs should be a burn brown color is the jetting is right

Put a fuel filter on and pull the pilot jet on the side thats backfiring and make sure it's not plugged with a piece of sand. Then adjust the air screws on both carbs so they are the same.

Thanks for the info. The plugs are tan, but they do have some deposits on them. also, they don't have any metal deposits. She idles fine and doesn't backfire, the left side just seems to start missing around 1/4 throttle. I have checked the intake area for possible air leaks. Is there any place else I might check? Thanks again for helping out.

I chased this problem and you might want to replace your coil or borrow one from a donor shee.

Mine idled fine but missed once it was warmed up. Look up backfire this. This was me trying to go to the dunes last weekend. It ran great at Glamis!

 

I read on another sight that the coils are known to do this?

It might also be your stator(Nick if your reading this. Read it again?)

 

I tried jetting a stator,Cdi. Stop switch. I even took it in and no one could find it.

 

Also make shure your old slides are in the right hole and the little black choke tube is in there.

Do you really want to bring up that thread again. Start with what is easy and cheap to test. If those don't work then tear it down further. Do one thing at a time and test after each thing done.

vmax you need to grow up or chill out. I'm not saying that you aren't trying to help but your problem was a 1 in 50000 unit problem. Plugged up pilot jets are very common on Banshees when running small pilot jets. Yeah it's nice to borrow a coil and spend the time to change them out. Its another thing to spend 15 minutes cleaning a carb and testing it out again. Now before you get your panties in a bunch ask around and maybe you'll get more info about me from some of the members of this board. When your daddy wants to pay for your porting... Once that bike warms up, take a compression check... You also need to look very closely at the plugs, and look for aluminum flakes or specs on them. Now, you say that the problem becomes apparent when the bike warms up. Is this because you don't start gettin into it untill it is warm? And you also mention that the bike does this

when it is sitting there
. Does this mean that the bike is in neutral? And you are just free revving? How are the reads? My guess is that it is overheating as well. You mention that it has to sit for awhile before it will run good again? Electronics usually take longer than 15 minutes to cool off if they exhibit a heat related problem.... How do you know that it isn't overheating? Do you have a temp guage?
