I need to know how I can swap a 96 cdi with a 95 cdi? The 96 has one more wire than my 95 does, do I need the extra wire? I have the tors disconnected. What does the fifth wire go to.

I have no idea what the 5th wire is for. My Clymer doesn't show it, and my '96 only has 4 wires (well two 4-wire connectors at the CDI).

Bensshee, you don't need the 5th wire, just re-use the connector from your CDI and put it on the new CDI. Look at the wire colors and match them up; all you have to do is remove the terminals from the connectors, and put them back in the connector you're using. I had to do this on mine when I got a Dyna. Just take a close look at the connector: it will have a little plastic tab inside it that retains the terminal itself; push the tab with a pick and the terminal will come out the back. Then just tape off that extra wire and you're good to go.

kenr74, like I said I dunno what that wire does but pretty sure it's not required to run, at least if you don't have any of the auxillary crap like the TORS. I would try the terminal swap and see what happens...

The extra wire goes to the parking brake switch. Are you sure the 96 isn't really a 97? From what I have seen, the 95-96 should have the exact same connectors. The 97- will have the extra wire, and a different connector. If you don't have a parking brake switch, you can just leave the wire disconnected, as other people here have mentioned. If you ground the wire, it will make the CDI think the parking brake is connected, and have a much lower RPM limit. If you plan on valet parking your Banshee, this could be useful...
