I just ordered the K&N air filter and adapter plate. From the looks of it, the adapter plate slides in to the notches(bottom of the air box) where the stock one went. Is that right?

you guys are getting rid of the air box lid completey? and what about the airbox itself? keep it? toss it?

90% of the riding i do is soft sand/dunes...the other 10....wide open (hard packed) desert.

that is exacly how it goes in, When i installed mine i left the lid off the airbox, since you just bought the suff it wouldnt make much sense to get rid of your airbox completely unless you want to buy new filters. Install the adapter plate and the filter and leave the lid off and you will be happy.

I agree with Big Blue, once I pried my eyes off his avatar. I removed the whole box to drill the two bolt holes but it may not be entirely necessary. I kept the lid without the snorkel until I got pipes and now run with no lid all the time. I kept the lid so I can put it on to wash my quad and not soak the air filter. I've also considered cutting away the rest of the airbox but I don't think the added airflow (if any) would offset how much more filth the air filter would be exposed to.
