I've done a few auctions and don't have any trouble there, but just want to get some opinions on how to sell what I've got. I'll post the stuff in the "For Sale" forum here before I use ebay in case someone needs something, here's what I have:

1. '85 RZ350 top & bottom cases, there's a hole in the top case where it threw a chain but it isn't broken into the tranny; so oil can't get out or dirt can't get in-pretty much a cosmetic defect only. Identical to Banshee cases except has drive gear for the tach.

2. '85 RZ350 stator cover, clutch covers (with oil injection pump blockoff plate), stock reed cages, intakes, carbs, shift lever, kickstarter & gear. The reed cages, intakes, and kickstarter look identical to a Banshee's.

3. ?? RZ350 instrument cluster, tach & speedo but I'm keeping the temp gauge...not 100% sure it's even an RZ cluster or if it works or not.

The cases and side covers have been painted black, looks like from a spray can. I've got almost everything disassembled and cleaned. Here's the questions:

A. Should I go ahead and strip the paint off the cases and clutch cover? Should I go ahead and polish them? Should I smooth out the break in the case (I'll still list it as having chain damage but I know I can make it look decent)?

B. Would it be better to include, say the water pump with the clutch cover? How far should I break the stuff down into separate sales (like sell the water pump gear in one sale, impeller in another, etc.)? Or should I combine everything?

C. What's a good asking/buy it now price or auction starting price for any or all of this stuff?

I'd appreciate any help at all, I'm hoping to be able to sell the RZ stuff I don't need now to help pay for the crank work and topend, put the RZ tranny & crank in my Banshee bottom end and the RZ jugs on top, then when it's running sell the Banshee head, jugs, crank, tranny, stator and CDI. I've got plenty of time to clean, strip and even polish this stuff, just not sure if it would be worth the effort. Help me out my brothas...

To get the best idea would be to watch how some of the other people are doing it and wether or not they are getting bids, i think your stuff should do good since it is for the rz. the better the stuff look the more people will probably bid (atleast i would) if polishing is not to much trouble that would be a good way to go.

if you need the money in like say 2 weeks or such just put them on e bay. i just start everything at 1$. rz and banshee parts are worth they re weight in gold.if they don t go for what you want to get,end the auction.i have a bunch of stuff up now, with more stuff going up tonight.

the less work you have to do the better.i bought a 1998 banshee whole last night,i hear her beconning my name right now! "JOHN" COME TAKE ME APART ! AND PUT ME ON EBAY"!

I was just gonna post the same kinda question. I'm have the chance to grab a 95 Banshee for $1100, I'm actually looking at it tonight. The only problem it has is I'm told the clutch is bad and the cylinders need to be bored from 20 to 40 over. I'm buying this for the sole purpose of parting it out, so will I most likely make my money back on a 95. I didn't have too much trouble on my 2000 parts but I'm kinda worrying about the age.

There is also a 2003 stock banshee for $3200 in the want ad here. Would I make that back? I just cannot see getting $3200 in parts from stock parts on ebay unless the fact that its 2003 will greatly increase the bidding price.

Thanks for any help on this.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll get everything clean and give it a shot, if I don't get any bids I'll try makin' them shine. So what do you do NYUK, just put in the bid something like "auction will end early if sold locally" or something? Or you just pull the plug? You don't get any hate mail from the cheapskates that bid next to nothing?

Not many cases on ebay now, at least that are getting bids, but I'm not the only one with chain damage, more than half are that way it looks like...and this one's not as bad as some are.

you can put something like that, reserve the right to end it early. yeah i get some hate mail.but it comes with the territory.

How do you keep from Ebay charging soo much to post stuff? Hell, I posted my TTR250 on there & it cost me almost $30 to post it!? WTF? That pissed me off & I haven't posted anything since because of that.:(

That's why I don't understand how people can afford to sell crap so cheap on there & still make money. Perhaps I'm just a dumbass,... ...that's probably it. :P

whole bikes are a different type of listing,it costs more. i start a normal everyday part at like 1.00 and let it get bid up from there.

Sounds legit. I just wasn't informed,...rather billed almost $30 for posting it. That's what ticked me off is I got charged after I posted it & wasn't aware that it was going to cost that much. This was a while back, maybe they've changed some stuff since then. I got some crap I need to get rid of, I'll get on there again sometime...

I would just fix the shee and resell her buy for 1100 put 400 into it and sell her for 2500 - 3000 almost double your dough

I've found you're better off breaking it down as much as possible and if it doesn't sell then take the left overs and put together a parts lot. Clean all the parts really well and take good pics. Don't bother polishing anything or stripping paint unless it looks really bad the way it is. Spend the extra quarter on the "gallery" pics or the $1 for the supersize/ picture pack if you're selling something that is over $20 or needs multiple or detailed views.

If there's a chance you will end the auction early, say so in the auction. It's just better that way. If you can, state a fixed shipping amount. Otherwise, weigh the parts {like cases or tranny etc,} and add a pound or 2 for packing so they can use the shipping calculator to figure shipping.

Don't waste your money on multiple listings like under Motorcycles AND atv's. People are looking for RZ stuff and will find it.

Don't use a reserve. Banshee and RZ stuff WILL sell. There's no sense starting the bidding low and hoping to pass a reserve price. List it for the LEAST you will take for it and let it go. Most bids come in the last few minutes so don't pull it too early if you are going to end an auction early.

Finally be honest in your listing. I'm jappy to ay that I have over 730 transactions, 460+ feedbacks and only 1 VERY UNFOUNDED NEGATIVE.

If you want to know more, just ask :)

Ben that black paint on the cases is from the factory. My cases on the motor I bought are black and the cases on my streetbike are black and every rz cases iv seen on ebay are black, so im 99% sure that's factory.

As for the oil pump, keep it in the clutch cover. Oil pumps sell for practally nothing on Ebay, its prolly not worth it to split up the two parts.

Take good clear pictures and lots of em. Clean everything up. Let me know if you need a picture host.

Make sure you put the word "Banshee" in your auction titles so the banshee guys get to see your stuff.

NO RESERVE. I see parts with a reserve and I keep on shopping. Iv seen countless items end under the reserve price with only 2 or 3 bids.

I agree with NYUK, start your auctions low, like a buck. That way, someone see's a nice Rz stator and its only at $3.00, they're more likely to put that item in their "watch list". You'll get more people watching your auctions, and hopefully their will be a bidding war on your part. If I see an Rz stator with a starting price of $75 bucks, its not going on my watch list.

Almost everything Iv ever sold on Ebay, the price on the part jumps during the last 2 minutes of the auction. usually triples or quadruples the price in the last seconds.

Pre-state shipping costs. I love it when I know exactly what the shipping is going to cost me. If I see an inflated shipping cost, I usually think to myself "f*ck you pal" and the auction never makes my "watch list". So be cool with the shipping costs.

Thanks Holyman and Meat, I appreciate it.

Meat: whoever built this motor got crazy with the black spray paint (not to mention Yamabond-that shit is everywhere!!). There's overspray on top of the original black paint, all the bolts and rubber covers were shot with it, and there's alot of places he shot it that the factory didn't (like inside the top case but not the bottom, over all the black plastic stator/clutch covers, etc.). So I considered stripping ALL the paint to just a bare aluminum finish, or goin' all the way and polishing it (SHOULD be less work since I just got a bench grinder). Guess I'll take a closer look and decide if it's worth the effort...
