Checkmate Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 my carbs are still pouring gas out of the overflows with the gas tank petcock valve on. i had just recently installed a dial-a-jet system, and it took drilling a hole through the carbs where the intake boot connects. i also rejetted during the process and left the bowls off when i drilled the holes for the dial-a-jets. i am guessing i wasn't careful enough with the bowls off, and must have put pressure on the floats. i took the carbs back off and checked the needles and seats for dirt, but they were clean. i also checked the float level and it was in tolerance. could i have leaned too hard on the float while drilling and presses the needle valve TOO far into the seat causing it to put a groove in it??? should i just go get new needle and seat valves from the stealership and try them??? help thanks Quote
89 bansheedude Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 try getting new seats, they might be bad. and yes it is a stealership. jayare Quote
blk02banshee Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 Check to make sure that the spigot that they give you to replace the original drain screws is closing tight. One way to make sure, is to take the bowl off, and fill it just under the overflow tube, and see if it still comes out. If not, then change the needle and seats, and/or re adjust the floats. Quote

If not, then change the needle and seats, and/or re adjust the floats. if i take the bowl off and fill it just below the overflow tube, where would i be looking for the fuel coming out?? i kinda thought that it may have had something to do with the spigots, but can't really understand how they can affect fuel coming out the overflow tube. can you explain this to me a bit more.....before i go out and waste $$ on 2 needle and seat valves. thanks Quote
blk02banshee Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 The fuel would be coming out the overflow at the bottom of the float bowl. The tube I was talking about is that brass tube on an angle in the bowl. fill it just below the top of that brass tube (the brass tube actually sticks up higher than the top of the bowl I think), so just fill the bowl, and see if it comes out the overflow at the bottom of the carb. The stock screw that you took out to put the spigot in, is a drain screw. it's like a faucet valve in a way, and when you loosen it, it allows fuel to drain out through the same hole as the overflow, for draining carbs. If it still does come out the overflow, call dial a jet (thunder products). They are very helpful and I'm sure they will do whatever it takes to make it right. Quote
Checkmate Posted January 4, 2004 Author Report Posted January 4, 2004 ahhhhhhh....ok i see. i thought those stock drain screws worked differently....like you needed to pull then all the way out for the fuel to drain. I'll check it out. thanks Quote
Checkmate Posted January 5, 2004 Author Report Posted January 5, 2004 that worked!!! i took out the new spigots and cleaned everything, then re-seated it as far as it could go. thanks for the help. Quote
Rex789 Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 hey i bought the dial a jet system but havnt installed it yet because im considering returning it for a few reasons: changing main jets isn't that hard. I have the stock carbs and when its at idle or turned off and I leave the fuel on, fuel drips out the drain tubes on the bottom of the float bowls. Ive tapped on them and that doesnt solve the problem. I had this problem many times with my blaster and the dealership just rips you off so im fine with turning the fuel line off whenever its not running, but wouldn't it affect how the dial a jet system works since the thing runs off pressure? I havnt tried cleaning the drain screw on the bottom of the float bowl or tightening it or cleaning the pilot jets, even tho i just installed brand new 27.5's, maybe that will work. Basically i havnt screwed around with any of that yet. but for the dial a jet system im supposed to replace that drain screw with the dial a jet spigot, so wouldnt fuel still drip out the tubes on the bottom of the bowls or am i supposed to plug those holes? (the instructions were kind of unclear there) any help or advice would be greatly appreciated... i also have K&N filters and it seems like they would barely slide over the carb because of the dial a jet system that i tap and install. thats giving me another reason to return the kit, unless theres plenty of room for the K&N filters to be fitted on the carbs with the dial a jet system installed. just for the hell of it my mods are pro circuit pipes, vforce3 reeds, K&N filters, no airbox or lid, dynojet needle and im about to install a noss coolhead with 20cc domes. thanx Quote
