You heard wrong. I will forever debate on this. If you ride MX, XC, or trails, you will like the Amp link. I like mine, and yes, it does work. I have tested myself. Ridden exactly the same bike with and without it. It does help traction, and torquing of the suspension as what happens on non amp equipped bikes. It does scrub off a couple HP on the dyno, but the benefits can be seen with better traction, and better handling. I think it is worth it IMHO. Now, the boost bottle, I have not found to be effective....

I agree with Boonman.

When I bought my Banshee from the dealership there was a $300 bonus buck promotion that Yamaha was putting on. Basically I could get $300 of stuff from the dealership for free. So along with a few other things, I got an Amp Link. But I rode the Banshee for 2-3 months before putting the Amp Link on. I also questioned whether or not the Amp Link would work. So after getting used to the ride and traction (or lack there of) with the stock set up I installed the Amp Link. There definately is a difference especially on uneven ground. It hooked up better and rode a little smoother.

Although there are a few negative aspects of the Amp Link. It is very noisy and not exactly a bolt on. You will have to trim the plastic case cover and spend a fair amount of time getting the rollers lined up exactly with the chain.

For traction, money is better spent on good tires and/or a shorter swingarm. But if you already have good tires, then the amp link is a good next step.

I had one about 2-years ago and it broke in the first race I tried it at, they sent me another and it broke, then they sent me one that was "updated", it broke in 2 weeks! I really didn't notice a difference anyway so I got my money back.

It must have been installed incorrectly. Mine has not broken yet. I have replaced the bearings twice, however, it hasn't broken. Your chain may also have been too tight..... This is the first I've heard of it. I have had lengthy conversations with Harry from Amp. Knowledgable fellow. And they stand behind their product. 100%

I have to agree with boonman I think the amp link is worth the money. I races w/out one for a long time and was having traction problems, my would also skip the chain and the bike would bottom out when I would get on the pipe. I put it on before an asphalt race and it stopped all the problems. I wouldn't run w/out one, but that is just my opinion.
