BansheeNutt Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 I've been playing with my banshee here lately and trying to go to a semi drag bike, almost ready to do it all drag and buy another shee for the trail. Here is my current senario........1998 banshee, bored.30 over, 4 degree key, fmf pipes, carb is jetted properly to the pipe and K & N filter with out lid, reeds, boost bottle (?), and some mild porting and polishing. Running 18/41 sprockets. Problem arrises here, on dirt (with 20 inch shredders in good tread) all I can do is spin, will not hook up at all, on pavement all it does is hook up, hooks way to much, can't keep the front end down in 1,2,3 gear, especially 1 & 2. Second gear take offs sux as well. I'm running a stock swingarm in which I know needs to be changed. Also have been told to run blaster shocks on the front. I currently am running a homemade setup which pushes the shock mount out closer towards the wheels. We just got through doing the engine 2 weeks ago and it is strong as an ox, I mean extremely strong. I am running 100 octane race fuel with yamalube R ( I really like this oil, ran it in all my quads through the years). What swingarm setup should I go with, which gears (sprockets) for the 1/8 mile asphault are best, anyone who might can tell me some good suspension setups would be helpful as well. Any help as a matter of fact! I'm ready to get this quad out and see what I can do ET and speed wise this spring but now I know it suxs b/c of the take offs being so lousy. Thanks guys! Quote
Ruko Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 First off get rid of your shocks. Use aluminum square tubing with your holes 11-12 inches apart. This will lower your center of gravity and take out all the body roll to give you much better launches. Makes for a rough ride but you won't even notice when you're kick'n ass. For trail riding just put the shocks back in. Quote
Chemical Castration Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Do you wanna turn this bike into drag only? or do you still wanna ride around a bit? Quote
sneeky Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 if you are just gonna do 1/8th mile you dont need that high gearing, i would go for 14 39 or 15 41 just a little taller than standard because if you gear it too high you will be a long way from hitting top speed at the 1/8th the gearing you got would be good for 1/4 if you got enough power to pull it. MRMOONEY Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 i would get some good drag pipes, *cough cough i know someone that has some cpi inframes for sell cough cough* LOL Quote
Josh A. Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 slam it,dont go to a longer swingarm if you already cant hook in dirt, and if its slammed it wont lift much either, order struts from www.mpracing.com i have them on the way,its a no link rear setupthat will help u hook too Quote
fast frankie Posted December 20, 2003 Report Posted December 20, 2003 I personally would run that same gearing with lower gearing you will get to much wheel spin I run 17/ 39 it ho0ks but they spin a little out of the hole. and it will also be less shiting you will need and air shifter or an override to run a 14 front you will be in second gear before 60 ft run as big of gears as your motor will pull out of the hole go with solid struts or marvin shaws with a ten inch swing arm because if you don't have a big motor yet give it a year or two and you will Quote
BansheeNutt Posted December 20, 2003 Author Report Posted December 20, 2003 I think my engine for now is ok compared to whats running here, just can't keep it on the ground, I did notice what you all were talking about with the longer gearing, B/C in the 1/8 mile I am in 4 th gear getting redy for 5 th gear at the finish line. It pulls the gears now pretty good, I will try the 13/41 set up in the 1/8 to see how if does, I haven't tried it in the 1/4 but I bet its got a good MPH. Quote
BansheeNutt Posted December 20, 2003 Author Report Posted December 20, 2003 I might do some riding on it, but it will be mostly trails and no real hard mudding or sort. Quote
