Sprocket changes

What does adding teeth to the front sprocket do. And what do the rear change do. I’m always confused when someone is telling me in person. I have a 12 in the front and 43 in the back.

Larger front and/or smaller rear- higher top speed, less acceleration

Smaller front and/or larger rear - lower top speed, more acceleration
