jasonsb Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 Is there a paint available that you can buy yourself and paint parts on a bike? I don't want to pay a powdercoating set up fee just to paint my hubs and brake rear brake parts. What kind of paint is durable and looks good. Which paint can be brushed or sprayed without a spray gun? Quote
erbilabuc Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 I know this is going to sound shitty but it works and looks like powdercoat. Got this idea from when I had an airbagged minitruck and needed to clean up the looks of the bed. At wal-mart they sell cans of spray on bedliner, get one can of it and one can of clear coat spray paint. Three coats of bed liner and three coats of clear will make your frame bullet proof. Quote

Not a bad idea,...but that wouldn't strengthen the frame any...unless you gussett it first. I just welded up weak spots with some extra welding when I rebuilt the g/f's shee....then gave it a couple primer coats & then the Krylon touch. Looks pretty good. Quote
Justintoxicated Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 I was thinkgin of having my roomate sand blast my hubs, they trying that duplicolor metalcast on them...eventualy I can powercoat them. but I don't think the Hubs really get that much wear do they? Quote
Wallrat Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 I've used some stuff called Engine Enamel with good results. Its durable as hell and resistant to heat. Not sure if it comes in other colors besides black though. Quote
brock_fuzzy_69 Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 there is a special 2 part epoxy paint thats meant to be really tough and hold up liek a powdercoat does but i say jsut clean em up realy good and use a quality paint intended for painting engines or liek somebody siad that special rustoleum hammerfinish stuff whish is intended to sprray over pitted stuff with some effort you woudl be suprised jsut hwo nice a spray can can work unless you can score a good deal on powdercoated stuff Quote
jstaguy24 Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 i just stripped my frame down and repainted it with a primer then finished it with an aluminum colored engine enamel paint from the auto parts store. I have spilled some brake fluid and things on it on accident putting it back together and I was able to wipe off the brake fluid and the paint stayed perfect. Other paints i have tried the brake fluid eats it away. It looks much nicer then i thought it would. I was going to powder coat but money was little tight and I wanted to get my bike back together and go riding plus i can always touch up any areas that get damaged without having it redone with powdercoating Quote
streetshee Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 try brake caliper spray can paint,is ultra hard wearing and goes on well an easy. Quote
