cfurey Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 I have replaced the head gasket twice on my shee and had the head skimmed. Yet there is compression and fume residue in the coolant. I used Yamaha gaskets on both occasions. Whats going wrong:- is it the gaskets, the head or what's causing this? What are the best gaskets to use? & where can they be got on the net? Should I replace my head in case it's warped? How often can they be skimmed? What would be a good replacement head? Maybe it's none of these!!!!! I'm about to pull my hair out at this stage - its wrecking my head - (no pun intended) Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 good gaskets are cosmetics, but if you go with a noss cool head you use o-rings and it boosts up performance and looks, pm dlnoss, he owns the company Quote
boonman Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Are you positive that it is being torqued down right? Are you sure it is the head gasket? When a head gasket leaks, it usually leaves a visible trail either on the gasket or on the cylinder or head. You should be able to see where the compressed mixture has blown by. Now, are you sure there is residue??? if the head gasket leaks, it will usually munch coolant and if it is bad enough, it will blow the coolant lines off. At least that's what mine did. Are you sure it's not just the usual black shit in the coolant that we all get with stock radiators? if you are not loosing coolant and what not, I don't think it would be leaking. What kind of torque wrench do you use? How old is it? Do you take care of it? Is it in spec? A torque wrench should be treated the best out of any tool you own. it needs to be pampered. Because if it is F'ed up, it will F you up. Anyways, basicall, is it leaking, or just black shit floating around in the coolant? ANd BTW, I use cometic gaskets. Quote
cfurey Posted December 9, 2003 Author Report Posted December 9, 2003 If the head was warped slightly - whats the solution to fixing it? Will tightening the nuts to the correct torque help or fix the warp? Quote
boonman Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 You can have the head trued up, I can do that. I grind heads. Anyways. I still don't think that's your problem.
