my father has a 6.0 gas engine in his 3/4 ton GM. I was raised in GM vehicles and I like them. That said I would only put the 6.o chevy as an ok motor - at least as it is from the factory without any goodies. I bought a 1ton crew cab 6.0powerstroke Ford - holy crap has diesle in small trucks come a long way. My truck that has to weigh more than my dads and the Ford will totaly wax the GM in any situation - and thats with 35" tires on mine. I won't put down the GM altogether but in my oppinion if you can strech for the diesle -any of the big three go for it. By the way it's the 6.0 Ford motor which is the newest of the 3 diesle motors.

we tow 4 four wheelers and all the gear we can hual to the badlands (right around 200miles or so)and it doesnt think twice about it.

Not to be rude, but thats not any weight at all. Try my 11,000 pound fifth loaded with water, bikes and gear (probably about 13,000, plus probably more than 1500 pounds of steel flatbed and grill guard) Hook up with a duramax and watch it up and down shift over and over trying to keep speed up. I use a F-550 with 7.3 powerstroke, so I am biased too, also not a real fair comparison of trucks.

Another point Id like to make: (of coarse Im biased here too, because I'm a used car dealer) is why buy brand new? For probably around 12-15 grand less than what you're planning on spending you could get an extra nice truck with low miles still under factory warranty and go with whatever make you want. Used doesn't mean old. I've already seen 2 new F150's at auctions and they've been out for what? 4 months?

I don't know much about all the new trucks, but I agree with BitchenBanshee about Dana 60's. They never fail. I have a 78 dodge with Dana 60's, and they are indestructible. Two of my dads cars have dana 60's in them too , and they can take a lot of power. One of the cars is a 68 Coronet with 750 hp (its a drag car), and the other is a 70 challenger r/t. They both have 440's, but the race car is stroked to a 496 with indy cylinder heads.

chevy does not put the 5.3 in a 3/4 ton truck so you cannot compare mileage on a 1/2 ton 5.3 to a 3/4 ton 6.0.chevy

Yes, I agree. But one of the guys that I was talking to had a 1500 with the 6.0L and got about 12 mpg. From what I have heard, the 5.3 and 6.0 chevys are really good engines. Although, I have decided not to purchase this particular truck since I cannot disconnect the on-star. (Good tip gumby, I checked this with a couple of mechanics and your dead-on.) Thanks for the input, I'm going to keep looking.

I know....! Anyone that knows anything about cars knows about the Dana 60. Mr. onebanshee doesn't know what he is talking about!
