yeah 93 or some were around there is fine i think you need race gas if you go to like a +7

I talked to a guy today at my local yamaha shop, I told him I was installing a +4 degree key and he acted like I would have to start running higher octaine gas (than regular) Is this a possibility?

Christy

Higher octane yes. Race fuel... nope.

Doesnt the manual state to run Premium even in a stock banshee?

Wouldnt that put u in the race fuel section if you needed more octane?

I didn't realize the book said that. Advancing timing will alway require more octane. I don't believe the shee really needs 93 pump gas in complete stock form. The compression ration is only 6.5 (I think). That's really low. +4 is not very much timing advance but is what works with most pipes. Even though advacing timinig does require more octane, the +4 will not take it over the 92/93 octane requirement. I run a ported motor with a higher compression ratio than stock and +4 with 93 octane. It's fine.

I too have ran +4 w/ high grae pump, but if I remember correct thats the manufacturers suggestion...might be wrong.

But to answer your question Christy, w/ a +4, I would run the best/highest grade of pump fuel availible in your area.

Thanks Screamin, I looked in the clymers manual and it recommends 90 octaine on a stock shee. I have regular in it right now. I am getting a cool head for xmas and I am going to run race gas, do you know the best way to drain the gas without making a mess?

Turn off the gas, pull the line from one left carb, put it in a gas can an turn the gas on. It's kind of messy getting the carbs out of the carbs but there is a bolt on the bottom of the carb bowl you can remove.

I know that some will dis-agree with this, but I don't think it would harm the engine to let it idle and run the fuel out. The motor isn't burning all the oil anyway at idle and I believe that there will still be plenty of lubrication to not damage the motor. That's just my opinion though. It's safest to just drain it, but I've done the above before without trouble when I knew it was going to sit for a while.

Here in the Netherlands octane 98 comes straight out of the fuel hose at all the fuel stations.

i am running +4 or +5 with 98.

I am going to replace my sparkplugs tonight.

Just curious:

Is there a way to see my engine is doing fine with the +4?

Can i read it from the spark plugs?

Thanks.
