mrmatt Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 I took my jugs off to smooth and polish the exhaust ports, but I have a few questions before I start. Will 80 grit rolls provide a smooth enough finish or should I try to find abrasive rolls with a finer grit? Should I do anything on the intake side? I've heard that a rough finish on the intake side helps to keep the fuel suspended, but should I clean up some of the rough casting lines anyway? Thanks Quote
Oilsmoke Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Matt 80 grit maye be to fine for some on the intakes. I used cutter tip in my die grinder . Start with 80 on the exhaust side and work up to 400 than use a felt pad and mirror the finish exhaust. Knife edge the transfer bridges too. If you follow the port walls and just clean up you will feel a difference. Just be careful if you are new to it. Go slow and ENjoy time with your Shee & it Will hualass. Quote
Hiram Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 On stock jugs the intake is actually painted with a smooth glossy paint, and cleaning them up as you rough up the surfaces with #40 will work good. On the exhuast port after you go as high as you can with the grit then use aluminuim polish on the a felt attachment for a mirror finish. Quote
mrmatt Posted December 5, 2003 Author Report Posted December 5, 2003 Thanks for the input. I couldn't find any felt tips locally so I am going to order some from Eastwood tomorrow. I'll try to post some pics when I'm done. Quote
