First and foremost get a reputable builder and do the supporting mods which will keep your engine alive longer.

Buy a quality crank and quality clutch.

If you already have t5 pipes fine, if you don't get something else.

Supporting mods are going to be what you want to get lined up first. Then your cylinders will need to be ported for the 4mil (spacer plate shouldn't be thought of) get some custom domes cut for the 4mil. Supporting mods: billet impeller, good clutch, pancake bearing, billet basket, pro-mod trans (when you start making any real power shifting becomes an issue), bearing detent, adjustable timing plate, poly case saver, good reeds, good intakes, big radiator. Etc.

T5's are decent pipes, but if you're looking for wot, top end power, you'll want something different.

A properly tuned motor with no air leaks and good parts will be a reliable motor. Don't think that just because it's a "cub" or "serval" that it won't be reliable. That's far from the truth. You should tell us what kind of riding you do, what's your budget, and how much power you want.

535 cheeta  6+years with no rebuild

485 cheeta now on its 5th season

multiple 421 cubs that have ran into 3 years with no issues.

its all in how they are built, tested, tuned after the build  and the quality of the parts installed.
