coloradododge Posted July 6, 2015 Report Posted July 6, 2015 Sorry . I'm probably doing this wrong. Done a lot of searching on site but first time posting. If anyone could help steer me in right direction I'd really appreciate it. Here is my situation. Bought bike used it had stock jets and fmf pipes. Fmf recommends 260's but bike runs excellent with 200's verified with several plug chops (oil coated plugs seemed very rich) from 4000 to 6000 feet. It was spitting oil out of the exhaust motor ran cool never bogged one bit. Had a trip at 8400 feet so I went from 25's to 30's on the pilots (shop recommended) and from 200 to 190 on the mains. (Added reeds removed snorkel went from stock filter to twin air at the same time. Bike ran lean and pretty hot bogged a couple times in 6th. Plugs really white hardly any color. Now I'm back at 6000 feet put 200's back in. Plugs look by the book perfect now no oil coming out of exhaust and a little oil on plugs. Bike is running hotter than it was before. Going back to 8400 feet should I leave the 200's in and see what happens? Sorry for the novel but if anyone has any input I'd really appreciate it. None of this makes sense I should have been rich when I went up in elevation Quote
trickedcarbine Posted July 6, 2015 Report Posted July 6, 2015 If that bike isn't burning at least the minimum reccomendation from FMF, you need to look at electronics. Quote
sleeper06 Posted July 6, 2015 Report Posted July 6, 2015 6k ft is up there 220 main with lid on , 25 pilot no snorkel just lid . Plug chop that Quote
bluebanshee98 Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 Check your coolant level and refill. If your bike was running that hot it probably puked out some coolant. Quote
coloradododge Posted July 7, 2015 Author Report Posted July 7, 2015 The coolant was changed once by myself and once at a shop before the trip. Trans as well. Ran warm but didn't boil any out. Engine ice by the way. I wonder how much difference in jetting removing the snorkel adding reeds and going from stock to twin air filter makes (will be pro design pro flow kit after tonight)... the next question would be how much more difference in jetting would the ehs lid make. then removing the lid all together. One more size maybe ? Quote
coloradododge Posted July 8, 2015 Author Report Posted July 8, 2015 Fmf recommendations are 260 from sea level to 1500 feet. I'll be running at 8500 feet. Next question will be if and when I switch to race gas. Which race gas possibly 50 50 mix or all race. Then what oil and ratio to mix at. And again what will changing to race gas do to my jetting? As far as this weekend goes I think I'll put in 210s and give that a shot since I know 190 was a little lean. Hopefully be a little rich. If too rich I'll pull the air lid since I just put in pro design pro flow kit. Racing a raptor 700 that i beat last trip. But now he added power commander. Intake. Filter. Launch control. The works.
