2STROKIN_IT Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Just for starters I wanna say that I have read through some very useful information on this site and a big kudos out to all you guys for it!!! But to get to the jist of things I have recently purchased a 98 banshee (about a month ago) and well it all kinda started there. Bought the bike out of Indiana for $1,500 due to it having issues and when I bought it the bike would start and idle fine but would bog upon hitting the throttle. Found out (thanks to you guys) that the parking brake sensor was bad or whatever so I disconnected and vua la she ran and purred like a kitten. Anyways I've done a few things since than •tors delete •T5 full TOOMY with jet kit (already on bike) •Pro design filter system •Billet impeller •Billet timing plate (set at factory I think till I find out more) •V4 reeds are on their way •Pancake bearing on its way also Anywho I would like to build a nice mild dune/trail bike and would like to know what would be my best bang for my buck?? Thanks guys and you have been absolutely helpful thus far, heck I'm even gonna build my own leak down rig tonight.,,, Quote
2STROKIN_IT Posted April 3, 2015 Author Report Posted April 3, 2015 So will milling my stock heads be satisfactory?? Or cool heads a bit better, also I wanna run pump gas.. Quote
wayne_smith97 Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 Keep your riding style in mind. Dune and trail are generally two different ball games. A dune port and a trail port are going to produce somewhat different characteristics. Quote
2STROKIN_IT Posted April 4, 2015 Author Report Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) So I've read that indeed it is a lot of different parameters when it comes to setups for dunes vs trails. But I'm aiming for a all around solid machine for either occasion. Let's say my riding style isn't mild I'm a balls to the wall kinda guy, heck I've been wrenchin on sportbikes for over 10 years now so I sure love speed and love the notions of power to weight ratios!! But I must admit I'm new to the quad world but so far lovin it but hating that it's very easy to spend money on these things... But back to the topic at hand, I've seen a non sponsored (dare I say) place ALBA RACING?? tell me they will mill my head, rechamber it and also port jugs for $420!! Does this sound good and has anyone heard of them?? Edited April 4, 2015 by 2STROKIN_IT Quote
2STROKIN_IT Posted April 4, 2015 Author Report Posted April 4, 2015 Oh whoopsie!!! Foot in the mouth!! Quote
wayne_smith97 Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 I can't speak for alba. Never had any work done by them. Quote
Deadbeat Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 if you've got a stock crank you should probably address that before you think about porting because it will come apart, i`ve never seen anybody or even Alba talk about Alba's porting on here they might farm that work out to another shop. 2STROKIN_IT Posted April 4, 2015 Author Report Posted April 4, 2015 Dammit that sounds like more money to be spent in the near future... Well if I'm gonna have to split the cases should I just put a stroker in and will my factory jugs (after port) and redone head still accommodate it on pump or will I have to run alky?? Quote
trickedcarbine Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 You should definitely do the 4mm if it's apart. You can port the stockers to go with it. The head/domes will also need to be done and it can definitely be set up to run pump fuel. Quote
2STROKIN_IT Posted April 4, 2015 Author Report Posted April 4, 2015 That all sounds like good news to me... Maybe in the $1000 range?? Or would it cost more? Mind me I'll be doing the work myself as far as disassembly and installs.. Quote
Deadbeat Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 you can get your stock crank trued a welded and that will hold up to some decent porting, most bang for your buck later would be a 4mm duneport build, you can run that on pump gas no probs should be up in the +70hp region, a lot of peeps roll with a duneport for trails unless its tight all the time you`ll go faster and find it more enjoyable with a less high strung combo generally once you go beyond bolt on mods and open up the motor chasing power you should sort your crank out so it doesnt grenade Quote
Deadbeat Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 Redline, HJR and F.A.S.T have great websites with up to date prices on parts and services http://www.bansheehq.com/bansheehq-sponsors/ you might want to have a good look around the Dyno Room and Sponsor Spotlight sections before you commit to anything Quote
2STROKIN_IT Posted April 4, 2015 Author Report Posted April 4, 2015 Yeah I'm surely considering it but wasn't sure if I can use all my stock top end after workin it of course to accommodate a 4 mil. But man the season is rearing its ugly head and wanna see what this thing has got in it. I really hadn't had the chance to take it out to open land and really wind her out. I will pull apart after my first outing I'm sure cause I'm truly never satisfied. Thanks again guys, big ups to the people that keep this site running it's extremely helpful to me and I'm sure you guys will help me throughout my build!! Quote
Frankthetank Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 Just a thought, are you still running stock shocks? If so, you might want to think about being able to handle that added power. Quote
2STROKIN_IT Posted April 5, 2015 Author Report Posted April 5, 2015 Yeah all of my suspension is bone stock, I was gonna address that when I tore the SHEE apart for powdercoat. What's a good recommendation when it comes to suspension components and actually getting the power to the ground? Quote
