91coupemike Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 When I took my engine apart from the previous owner there was only a gasket on the reed to cylinder side, the vitos gasket kit I got came with only 2 gaskets, but upon further research Ive seen some people say they use 4 total, adding some to the intake to reed side. It passed a leak down test with only 2, but I wanted to know what the common practice was, I'll be making my own gasket from felpro 3157, oil/gas resistant material, the grey stuff, going to spray copper gasket on them too. oldskool Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 You need a gasket between reed cage and cylinder.(both cylinders) Then you need a gasket between reed cage and intake(both) Quote
registered user Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 if your using oem intake manifolds you only need a gasket between reed block and cylinder. oem manifold has a rubber oring gasket already. for aftermarket manifolds youll probly need 4 gaskets. between reed block and cylinder and manifold and reed block Quote
91coupemike Posted January 23, 2015 Author Report Posted January 23, 2015 Yeah I'm using stock intakes, I figured the rubber would seal but f it I'll go back with 4. Quote
camp0429 Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Yeah I'm using stock intakes, I figured the rubber would seal but f it I'll go back with 4. I'm running VF4's, stock intakes, after rebuild I used 4 gaskets and still had leaks on both intakes, eventually had to use a little fuel safe gasket maker to seal. I hate using that shit but it's the only way I was able to get it sealed even with 4 gaskets Quote
sheerider1026 Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 I always smear a thin layer of 1211 on the intake gAskets. Works for me 1 Quote
