aleyesonme Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 Hello everyone...I've searched but haven't found a more accurate answer....anyway long story short..,..bike ran perfect couple weeks ago. All of a.sudden bike wouldn't start....changed cdi, coil pack, that didn't work....so I changed the stator and magic..fired right up..,now it's sputtering pretty bad in all gears.....I know the pickup coil gap is suppose to be about a business card thickness close to the tabs on flywheel....I noticed after that it's a lil more than that....would that cause a sputter...thanks a bunch in advance Quote
do-work-son Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 Did you get a oem stator or a ebay one? Quote
aleyesonme Posted November 20, 2014 Author Report Posted November 20, 2014 No I haven't ohmed my plug gaps...not from the new coil anyway. .,..I have an oem stator I believe, came from my stock motor I had laying around....and I know the stator is reading right below the spec I believe. ..not off much tho....so are u saying a pickup gap coil being slightly off can or may cause a sputter..?? Larry's Shee Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) ...so are u saying a pickup gap being slightly off can or may cause a sputter...?? Short answer, yes. There's a reason they give a spec and not a range, .018" . Because a card could vary in thickness, this method is good ONLY if you are somewhere (ride) and you have to set it. Otherwise dump the ghetto/hillbilly method and do it right. I've seen mention of sanding one nub down so they can both be same. Or set the largest gap to spec. Clean any rust off nubs. aleyesonme Posted December 1, 2014 Author Report Posted December 1, 2014 Just wanna say thanks to everyone that help me on this post, I readjusted my pickup coil as well as a new cdi box....not sure which fixed the problem, but it runs great again....thanks again Quote
trickedcarbine Posted December 2, 2014 Report Posted December 2, 2014 Put the old CDI box on and see how pissed you get when it turns out you spent Unnecessary dollars. Quote
aleyesonme Posted December 2, 2014 Author Report Posted December 2, 2014 Put the old CDI box on and see how pissed you get when it turns out you spent Unnecessary dollars.Guess I need to clarify.....when I say new is that a buddy had a extra one and I used that one, so to eliminate that maybe being the problem, I put my original cdi back on since I realized that wasn't the problem to begin with.. ..so I didn't have to spend anything...
