Guest bansheeman654321 Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 im just replaced my axle bearings and i cant get teh space between the bearings aroud the axle, liek over it, it just wount go, i tried a hammer, and using grease, do i need it, is it really importnat Quote
. Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 yeah its important, it holds the inner races of the bearings from caving in on each other when you tighten the axle nuts down. Keep working at it, it should go on. Dont mess up the threads of the end of your axle. Use a socket that will rest up against where the hub rests up against and hammer on the socket. Keep working at it, it'll go on. Mine slid right on using some grease. Whats actually holding it up from going on? Quote
Guest bansheeman654321 Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 liek right were the bearing is supposed to set on teh axle, it smooths out, and it goes up a little bit, it stops there Quote
BenBB Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 You might run some emory cloth around the inside of the spacer and on the axle where the spacer runs (not on where the bearings ride!). It's more critical that it's the right length between the bearing races than a tight fit against the axle shaft... Quote
BdBanshee Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 The spacer is probably messed up on the end. You could take the old spacer and your axle carrier to a machinist and have him make you a new one out of a piece of pipe. I have made them before and it only takes a few minutes. Quote
