BansheeBuhl Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 Every gear runs smooth but second gear feels like it's slipping under heavy acceleration. I don't know too much and the guy I bought it from said the shifting star is worn , and the local shop says it's probably a bad second gear.... So I thought I would ask the experts! Please help!!! BansheeBuhl Posted November 17, 2003 Author Report Posted November 17, 2003 also when I purchased the banshee the o ring was leaking antifreeze into the crankcase. Would that cause the clutch to go bad or to slip? Quote
wesw Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 antifreeze and oil mixing are not a good thing. i would drain the oil and replace the clutch. and if that doesnt fix it well then you would have a good clutch for more mods Quote
Badbanshee_boy Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 it sounds like the clutch, and you rpobaly did some damage with the coolant oil mix Quote
MULLET~BOY Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 i don't think its the clutch it would slip evry gear under a load mabey a shift fork ? or second gear is fried Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 same thing happened to me, and it was my gear fork Quote
boonman Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 If your second gear is sliping, how is it slipping. If the gear is bad, it should make a horrendous noise as it grinds inside the case. you would be able to hear this. If it is the clutch, your RPM's will rise and the bike won't go any faster. Which is it? Grinding/chattering, or just unconttrollable revving at WOT... Quote
BansheeBuhl Posted November 17, 2003 Author Report Posted November 17, 2003 The motor does not rev up freely. When I accelerate slowly in second it seems to be fine, and when I give it, its more like a chatter or clunk, and does not accelerate very well. Does this help you? Also people are talking about the gear fork. Is this an easier fix than splitting the case to replace gears? Quote
boonman Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 it sounds to me that either the gear is not engaging fully, (shift fork problem) or the gear has lost the engagement dogs or teeth or both. i am wondering how much metal is floating around in the tranny. Have you drained and inspected the oil? I drain it through a coffee filter. This will trap any debris so you can see it and inspect what is going on inside.... Either way, with a shift fork or gear, you still have to split the case... Quote
