satts Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 Hi guys, I'm rebuilding a stock motor but can't work out the knobs on the bearings ,one side seems to spin but catches on the cases, can the knobs on the bearings be machined down? Quote
oldskool Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 that is so the outer race of bearing does not spin in case. It needs to be there Quote
trickedcarbine Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 There should be two little reliefs in the case where you set those nubs. Also, you're rebuilding this motor? That means there was a catastrophe? Are you sure this crank is worth putting back in? Was it checked? If so by who and how? No sense in putting a sloppy crank back in. Quote
satts Posted June 30, 2014 Author Report Posted June 30, 2014 Yup there's the reliefs but one of the little knobs is worn down and comes out of that relief ,what would you do does it matter if the outer race spins? Quote
oldskool Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 If your doing a bottom end rebuild? I would use new bearings. Quote
satts Posted June 30, 2014 Author Report Posted June 30, 2014 I worked it out thanks for the input everyone . I see where the " knobs" on the bearings go against. Quote
