RKJLOW Posted June 6, 2014 Report Posted June 6, 2014 i searched but most people go to aftermarket axles it seems, i just did my rear axle bearings and seals and before i put the hub sprocket on it spun freely IE i spin it it keeps spinning. now after tightening it down and putting the hub on it spins, and doesn't get harder in one spot but will not spin freely seems tight IMO. Never done a rear axle before, i cant tq the nuts to proper spec because i am still using the stock 87 style with the gaps for a chisel maybe im too tight? idk bearings are seated properly the seals are slightly below the lip of the carrier - center spacer is in place- after the seals are in does it still free spin or does the resistance from the seals make that impossible- Also does the 6bolt style sprocket hub fit the older 87 axle? thanks guys Quote
special06shee Posted June 6, 2014 Report Posted June 6, 2014 The seal will offer a bit of resistance. But on a trail bike id say they are a must. You do not have to kill the nut. I always just tightened it until i had no play, then killed the jam nut. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 IIRC, it goes something like tighten inner to 35ft/lbs, hold inner while tightening outer to 270ft/lbs, back inner against outer 3mm. Quote
