RKJLOW Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Got a set of vitos SS pistons, whats the minimum max ring gap? anybody know? also any certain direction for the rings? cylinders bored .40 over i can email them but forum is faster usually Quote
Larry's Shee Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Any markings go up. Wiesco uses a formula for gap, Want me post that? Another hour Vito's will be open and you can call 1 Quote
gonzodesign Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 no less than .014 and if you file the end gap at all make sure you have enough pin gap as well, the ring will get hot and you will have those nice lines engraved up and down the cylinder where the ring end gap is, its not from end gap pin gap causes that. RKJLOW Posted April 23, 2014 Author Report Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) MININUM END GAP .012 PISTON TO WALL .003 from vitos themselves, that being said is it a good idea to go to say .014? i know on cars the bigger the gap the better (to and extent) to compensate for heat swell ect... gonzodesign Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 pin gap is the notch in the ring where the locator pin goes when the ring is completely compressed in the cylinder, people would get an oversize ring and file it to fit but you need to relieve the notch as well, an easy way to see if your ok is put the ring on the piston while the piston is off the crank install it in your bore and rotate the piston right to left until you feel the piston start to hit the pin and want to turn the rings, if you have .015 to .020 movement your good to go, takes 2 minutes to check Quote
