gordo Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 92 banshee with +2 arms and stock steering stem. I turn the bars all the way to the left or right until stem hits the steering stop. my wheels have almost an extra half inch of play inwards which causes a lock up and if you go fast enough your going over the bars! ive checked for alignment issues, tie rod tweeks and have no idea on why it would do this? also running spacers on 1" spacers on hubs? thanks any help is greatly appreciated. Larry's Shee Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 Worn stem or worn/bent steering stops. Spacers or deep rims makes it worse Quote
gordo Posted March 13, 2014 Author Report Posted March 13, 2014 is this a common issue? so a new steering stem would solve the problem? would you recommend the roll design steering stem or oem? Quote
hoppedupandcutdown Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 I've seen more the stop on the frame bent/worn. A spot of weld on each side and dress it down til it stops before the wheels cam over. Quote
gordo Posted March 13, 2014 Author Report Posted March 13, 2014 widening the the stop..never thought of that..thanks Quote
Starwriter Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 The stop also bends forward when this happens. Bend it rearward and weld in a gusset. Quote
gordo Posted March 13, 2014 Author Report Posted March 13, 2014 thanks for the info folks..much appreciated! Quote

swhitey917 Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 I've seen more the stop on the frame bent/worn. A spot of weld on each side and dress it down til it stops before the wheels cam over. Same solution I had to do for mine. Bent the steering stop on the frame up which was allowing the wheels to turn past full lock and sending me over the handlebars a couple times before i could make it back to camp. Might loose the spacers as well which could be causing strains on the steering system. Quote
