87bansheepnw Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 should i re-ring my motor? it has 116 psi on both cylinders and it starts pretty much first kick everytime but im wondering if re-ringing it will do anything for me? Quote
87bansheepnw Posted February 20, 2014 Author Report Posted February 20, 2014 should i just throw in new rings or ? dont really wanna rebuild it... Quote
sheerider11 Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 should i just throw in new rings or ? dont really wanna rebuild it...Sounds like you made up your mind. But not the way I would go about it. A top end is basic maintenance. Do you plan on keeping the bike?? Quote

Larry's Shee Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Tho Clymers (nor Yamaha FSM) lists a min or max presure, IIRC 125/130 is good on fresh rebuild. Porting, head/dome size, and elevation have an effect on cranking pressure. What are your specifics on these three points? Not flaming, how did you perform test and what kind of tester did you use? You could remove pipes, bring piston down far enough to reach finger in to see/check if piston has a lot of wiggle. Closer to BDC, the less you will detect. Quote

Larry's Shee Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 well, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Starts easy, I see no problem. Might be down a horse or two. Do the wiggle test. If ain't as sloppy as an 8 Mile whore, run it. Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Guages dont always read the same. If both cylinders are similar and it starts easy id run it. Its more important to compare where you were when you rebuilt with the same guage. However you dont know that number Quote
