wee-wee404 Posted January 11, 2014 Report Share Posted January 11, 2014 Hello everyone, I am a fairly new banshee owner, owned it for a little over a year now and new to bansheehq. I built mine from the motor up just because I didn't want to make payments on one and wanted it to be exactly how I wanted it to be. After I finished tightening the final bolt I took to my mechanics shop and had them make sure that the jetting was right along with everything else, just to be sure. Everything has been going really well with it so far except that the coolant keeps going down on it and drastically. After 3-4 rides for around 1-2 hours at a time, the coolant is significantly depleted. I also have a 04 yfz 450 that I own and bought before the shee. I have always ran "Engine Ice" in it along with a boyesen super cooler. So, naturally I bought "Engine Ice" for my shee. I put a small amount in the overflow bottle and fill the radiator up until its full. While riding I have tried to watch very carefully to see if I notice a leak or steam or anything of the nature that would suggest a leak and I cannot find a thing. I have let it idle for 15-20 minutes on the concrete and again watched for leaks and still I cant find a thing, any ideas? Im afraid I am going to run it out one of these times and really be in trouble, not to mention that Engine Ice is pretty expensive!!! I have FMF fatty pipes and silencers on it along with K+N air filter's and that's all I know of since I bought the motor already assembled. The guy that sold me the motor also said that it has a 404 big bore as well but I really don't know for sure. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks. vulvafan537240 Posted January 11, 2014 Report Share Posted January 11, 2014 Check to see if the trans oil is milky. May be a clutch side crank seal leaking. wee-wee404 Posted January 11, 2014 Author Report Share Posted January 11, 2014 I have checked the trans oil to see if I could see any antifreeze and haven't noticed anything at all. If you're familiar with engine ice then you know that it has kind of a smell to it, not real strong but some. I haven't been able to smell anything nor have I noticed the oil draining out "less thick." As far as the leak down test goes, the complete motor, carbs, reeds and exhaust all came together and off of the same bike. I got the motor from a buddy who put a 600cc crotch rocket motor on his banshee and the guy he bought it from claimed the 404 n what not. In order to perform a leak down test, what all would I need? If I had to bet, id bet that it is leaking from the cylinders because that is one of the few places I didn't look for to leak from. kedge82 Posted January 15, 2014 Report Share Posted January 15, 2014 when you ride it for a while get off and look at the over flow tube iy well spray your arm. as you know when you fill your radiator up to the top that is to much coolant after running it it is going to dispoerse the coolant not needed out of the over flow tube witch will wetting your a arms but the the over flow will or should be at the full mark the amount of presure you create will the engine is hot is going to be lower than it is when you fill it completely while cold obviously. in my excperince the radiator ussually holds about half or 3/4 full with a full overflow pressure test is best option if you thnk its drainging to much i would assume blowing head gasket which willl blow anti frezze out over flow due to the pressure.easy way to take that out of equation fill, ride, let it blow out exsece clean blow out of the a arms, ride little longer check again. if they are still getting wet you are creating pressure into coolant system from more than likley head gasket. but leak down test will give you exact spot. but since you have your head off. easy way to tell your head gasket is broke or leaking look at the pistons they should have nice firing pattren on them if oneis completly clean with no firing mark. gasket is the probleom and the coolant is keeping it clean Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

03DMshee Posted January 16, 2014 Report Share Posted January 16, 2014 I know you said you checked but honestly check your case vent lines and your coolant hoses coming from overflow bottle...people mix those up sometimes at the "T" fittings...I would personally ditch the coolant bottle all together...run your overflow tube right down over rad and zip tie it to frame right over one of your expansion pipes...if you do overflow you will see smoke usually in time to shut it down before it shuts itself down....
