snowprophet1 Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 A friend has a new banshee, and wants a little porting done. With a mild port job, and a set of pipes, are the stock pistons ok to run? Everybody seems to put Wisecos in after their first bore job, but this is a trail machine that probably isn't going to see any N2O. Are stock pistons safe? I think they would, but value your opinions. THANKS! Quote
fixitrod Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Forged pistons are just a lot stronger. Stock is cast. If a piston breaks it tears everything up. Crank, $400, bore $90, piston set $150, head $90 (redone), etc. I'd rather pay a few extra bucks for good pistons and save the headache in the future. I believe the forged would ware slower too. I would ask the builder that does the porting. If he's trying to save money because the top end is fine the builder can help you determine if the power that's going to be produced will be safe with the current top end. Quote
wheeleymaster99 Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 i would say put new pistons in while you have it appart because if its an older shee its always good to put a new top end in evey once and a wile Quote
raxen Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 Don't take the chance. Spend a little extra dough and have reassurance. Quote
Banchetta Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 Don't worry, I will only use cast pistons. Either stock or Niks pro-x....the rings on the cast pistons will wear better due to the = expansion of the pistons and cylinders. I've been running cast for 5 years now and only lost 3 psi of compression. I swear by them and won't go back to forged, but thats my .02 and everyone has their oppinion, especially on this subject..
