slobanshee Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 I've decided to finalky get the cylinders ported on the wife's bike. It's a 4mil 68mm PV cheetah on gas. Its been together a few years. Never any issues. Still has 153/154 kicking compression. I have it all tore down. The cylinders and pistons look great. Would you re ring it and do a light home to knock the glaze off. Or whole new pistons and rings with honing? Quote
mike0chek Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 i would run it if ur comp has not dropped. Quote
Surfrjag Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 Find pw clearance. That will tell you.. Quote
dirtydownunder Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 if the pistons check out, id re ring and hone it, as its apart anyway. Quote
lms1977 Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 If the ring end gap and the piston to wall is good just keep running it if you dont want to put money out. But imo putting new rings on used pistons is kind of a waste. I used to do that as a kid when rings were $10 Quote
Brap_Life Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 With the abundance of aftermarket competition you are better off ordering the entire top end. I'd mic the pistons and cylinders to see what clearance is before anything else. Quote

Finch Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 If everything is in spec run it. Otherwise I'd do new pistons and rings. Quote
slobanshee Posted September 30, 2013 Author Report Posted September 30, 2013 Yea it's all in good shape. Just didn't know if rings where going to re grove once moved and what not. Quote
