Stomp77 Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 my buddy took my newly rebuilt banshee out today and he said the engine quit and locked up the back tires in 6th gear WOT. He said the rear tires were frozen and skidding on pavement for about 4 seconds then he dumped the clutch again and got it restarted. I rode it all the rest of the day and shee seemed fine. I have never had a single problem with her since the rebuild, which was last week. Vito's power pistons and TDR crank runs great!!!! sorry for the book i just wanted some opinions on why that could happen or if it could happen at all? before i start buying gaskets and tearing stuff up. could the piston's have seized and then broke free? I let it warm up until the jugs and pipe were hot before he took off, i was thinkin maybe he hit the rear brakes on accident and locked 'em up shutting off the motor? thanks again all.... Quote
MRMOONEY Posted November 1, 2003 Report Posted November 1, 2003 i'd check the jetting just to be sure, never hurts to be safe rather then sorry, let us know man Quote
PassionRE Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 How much compression are you running and what fuel? Which pistons are you running at what clearances? Its not uncommon to do this, but I will be willing to bet the next time you do it, if your situation isn't investigated, it will lose the cylinder and wont come back. BenBB has a great section on his webpage for jetting advice...ck it out! Actually, Factory Yamaha road race teams used to set there motors up tight on purpouse, partially seize them, teardown, smooth the seizure marks out, and run them that way, all on purpouse....Jim Quote
cb67rs1 Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 i had sort of the same problem at the track a couple weeks ago, come to find out it was the push rod for the clutch not the cylinders. the rod fused to the clutch lever arm and the ball which in turn was all bolted to the pressure plate which made my engine feel like it was seizing up and eventually locked up. once i took it all out it was fine. did i loose you? erbilabuc Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 your gettting way too scared over nothing, 6th gear @ wot seizure means it was the tors doing their job. Mine used to do it all the time on this long clay road where we used to ride in 6th gear for miles and it happened to me all the time. Realized it was the tors after I disconnected them and it never did it again. Quote
Stomp77 Posted November 12, 2003 Author Report Posted November 12, 2003 I just rebuilt using a tdr hi-po crank, and vito's power piston's. Shee's run great all day every day, except for "seizing" that one time and a buddy was riding her when it happened. He helped rebuild her, otherwise no one rides the shee! I have '97 fmf signature series pipes, toomey 2:1 intake and rad valves. Dead center on the needle clip, 27.5 pilots, and 300 mains. My air screw is all the way in I am at 720 ft, temp 40-60f, and running amsoil premix at 50:1 with 93 octane. Everything seems ok, the guy who bored my jugs did do them really tight, so I am wondering if i should invest in a new head gasket and check things out? thanks... Quote
Banchetta Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 Check the compression and see if both cylinders read the same, they should...have you done a wot test to see if your mains are dialed in correctly???Could save you a top end.... Quote
