DMC 916 packing.

With re-packing does the packing have to fill the whole of the inside of the muffler or just be wrapped tightly around the core tube thing and not fill the muffler totally?

 

Also is there a difference between 4 stroke and 2 stroke packing? The shop near me had no 2 stroke packing so I bought 4 stroke packing.

As far as I know packing is packing I've even seen guys use insulation from home depo, when I've re packed mine on my t5's it's always a tight fit, not sure about dmc

4 stroke packing will work but wont last as long, insulation is what I use. Wrap it as tight as you can around the cores and use some tape to help make it tight, no don't fill the muffler completely.

I did the packing today, what a cunt of a thing to do. Hope I did it right. Took me about 40mins.

 

If the core tubes arent aligned properly will that cause any issues?

well yeah, why aren't they aligned properly? If its not aligned you might be plugging up the exhaust.

Well theoretically, the end cap would not go on if it was not aligned properly.... right?

I've gotten pipes with the perforated tube so beat up that it would plug the exhaust. The wouldn't fit right, bent, deteriorated, or just gone.

But if you force the cap on you could have fucked it up.

hmm I'm gonna have to check it again. If I lossen the packing so it is not so tight and doesnt totally fill out the muffler (so I can get it in easier) Would that affect performance?
