Methfireroad Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 I am currently doing a leak down test on my motor I just go back from the builder and I'm wondering if anyone uses gasket Seeler on your reeds/intake Quote
apeik Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 .02 cents... i used 1211 sealer on both side's of the reed gaskets, probably way overkill but i wanted to make sure they never leak. Quote
apeik Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 oh, and if it seems to have a slow leak, and your not using brand new spark plugs, check there first, i was using old plugs just for the test and they seem to leak easily. Quote
Methfireroad Posted March 21, 2013 Author Report Posted March 21, 2013 Ok thanks buddy much appreciated Quote
Methfireroad Posted March 21, 2013 Author Report Posted March 21, 2013 Ok good I was thinking that was the number Quote
Jereme6655 Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 soap in a spray bottle......works amazing for finding leaks. Quote
Methfireroad Posted March 22, 2013 Author Report Posted March 22, 2013 Yes thanks jereme. I need to get some different gasket sealer tomorrow the stuff I used didn't work well Quote
Methfireroad Posted March 22, 2013 Author Report Posted March 22, 2013 Well it didn't help that I used a two stage compressor and blew the whole motor apart... Lil elbow grease and some duct tape and she will be like new Quote
trickedcarbine Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 Windex is great for tracking down leaks Quote
WINDYCITYJOHN400 Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 Dan, Screw that soap and water bullshit! Just spray a whole bottle of starter fluid into the intakes (or use oxyacetylene) then pressurize. Wave a match all around the motor. If you get a nice strong flame....you can trace it right to the leak. Quote
Tech AS Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 Lol what a bunch of dicks! And X2 on the windex! It foams in tiny bubbles and shows small leaks really well. Quote
Methfireroad Posted March 22, 2013 Author Report Posted March 22, 2013 Ya I'm cleaning everything real good and I'm going to seal with this sealer I got... Quote
Methfireroad Posted March 24, 2013 Author Report Posted March 24, 2013 Ok did my leak test and held fast at 5.5 for more than ten mins. Now I have another question this cub was previously set up for meth and has a hole drilled in the side of one of the intakes. The builder had a plug screwed into the hole and had it red loctited in but it was leaking out of there. So I pulled the plug cleaned it up and used some thread sealant to seal it. Since I used thread sealant I couldn't use loctite. Am I going to have problems with this plug backing out???? Any help would be appreciated... Quote
