hi, i think your doing like i have done, i think your polishing with to fast of machine, and its burning/dulling , try cleaning the part, maybe wet sand  1000grit with good dish soap ,then mothers or wenol, with a poilishing cloth and just use the hand to polish and see itf it comes shinier 

i really think its glazing from to hot or high speeds

in any step, from beginning to end , i never really had to use power on aluminum, if you clean the aluminum,and use good polish, also good car buffing compound works to get rid of oxydation , but dont use red, use white or something not colored,it cuts nicely like wet sanding,but you need to wash the aluminum thoroughly before using aluminum polish,or it will contaminate the aluminum,from other stuff you used
