broke350 Posted January 5, 2013 Report Posted January 5, 2013 I've been reading several other old threads on here about leaky seals and am pretty sure I have my problem narrowed down to the countershaft seal. Can this be replaced like the shifter shaft seal without splitting the cases? It doesn't leak while sitting, just a small leak while riding. Can usually ride it all day and still safe on the dipstick, but it's making a mess and I want to get it fixed since It's parked for the winter. Quote
Pastrykiller Posted January 5, 2013 Report Posted January 5, 2013 Flip the motor and split the cases from the bottom. Takes 30 minutes If the motor is out of the frame. Since the cases will be split, replace all the seals. 30-45 dollars is a good way to make it last. And reseal it with 1211 or yamabond. Quote

sprinklerman Posted January 5, 2013 Report Posted January 5, 2013 If you are talking about the seal behind the sprocket, then yes you can replace it with out splitting the cases. Quote
shanYE west Posted January 5, 2013 Report Posted January 5, 2013 yup, no need to split the cases.. easy fix. Quote

Yep, this is the one. Thanks guys. Was really hoping to avoid having to pull the motor. I'm going to go ahead and replace the shifter seal while I'm there. I've also read about a neutral light block off that has a tendancy to crack and leak. My stock piece seemed in good shape when I threw on my case saver last year. Where can I go to get the aluminum one I've been reading about, and what is it called? Thanks again guys. Quote

broke350 Posted January 5, 2013 Author Report Posted January 5, 2013 Thanks again!! I'm gonna order some parts now. Quote
broke350 Posted February 5, 2013 Author Report Posted February 5, 2013 Countershaft seal, shifter shaft seal, and new neutral switch block off installed. Cleaning the engine and frame took longer than replacing the seals. New water pump impeller and a-arms are next. Hoping for this weekend. Thanks for all the responses guys. Quote
Starwriter Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 Hey man, I see you're in Wichita. Mull Engineering is in Wichita. You should hit them up for a billet water pump gear. It's a really nice piece. http://www.mullengineering.com/sc/store.php/products/yamaha-banshee-billet-water-pump-drive-gear-impeller-drag-race-sand-trail-power-online Quote
broke350 Posted February 6, 2013 Author Report Posted February 6, 2013 Thanks man. I bought the Chariot waterpump impellar/cover from a member here a while back. I'll grab one of those gears too and swap it all out together. Quote
