my buddys axle wound up like that, take it to an auto shop and ask them to chase the threads. only chance you got

go get ahold of a thread file.  start on the good threads and work out, then chase with a die/chaser.

you would be supprised how over-looked a thread file is...

 

worst case, you could knock the damaged threads off and use what's left, too...

Holy shit. If your gonna hammer threads, ensure you put a nut on so you can chase the threads.

yeah I'm not dumb enough to wack on threads, its. like using an impact on a crank, if I can just get a nut on there enough to hold a wheel decent ill be fine with that then throw it in the scrap pile once I get the +4.

psh, with just the threads below the pin hole holding good, you could even ride it that way.  might be a little tricky to not cross-thread the nut going on, though.

You can cut the same amount off the hub that you do the axle to make up the thread loss. It's still a challenge but if you gonna throw it away...might as well experiment.

just grind the threads off where there damaged leaving the axle in tact where the cotter pin goes, so it looks like a bolt with no threads at the tip

Any decent machine shop can fix it for you for cheap.
