Krylon fusion

I want to freshen up my plastics, I don't want to change the color, I like the black/white scheme... Would it work to just sand/scuff them good to smooth the scratches out, then hit the whole thing with some 2000 grit paper and just use krylon fusion clear to give it some shine again?

If you want to spend the time, you can refinish the plastics and polish them back to a shine without the krylon.

or what about the paint/clear made for r/c cars? I've painted a couple of bodies and beat the hell out of them and the paint's still there.. Granted you paint them from the inside, the plastic twisting and bending hasn't made the stuff chip yet..

some cheap clears turn yellow after a while. i wouldnt risk it. just polish like broke butt said.

I have used the Krylon fusion in the past on plastics and its great stuff and last forever. If you decide to spray them just make sure you use a good primer as well as light coats to get a really good even spray on them. Also allow them to dry for atleast 12hrs before touching them.

If you want to spend the time, you can refinish the plastics and polish them back to a shine without the krylon.

There was a thread a while back where someone sanded the plastics to a wet 2000 grit, and finished them with a rotary polisher. I sanded and refinished the purple "ghost" flames off of the radiator cover on my 05. I sanded it with 320 up to 2000 with soap/water. Then used 000, and 0000 steel wool with soap and water. After that was done, I wiped it down with a microfiber towel soaked in alcohol. Finished polishing it by hand with Plexus on a microfiber towel.

 

This is the only picture I can find of it. You can see it's actually shinier than the original 05 plastics...

I picked up one of those 3m headlight restore kits today, comes with the wheel for a drill and pads from 400 to 2000 grit. I'm going to try that, as long as I get the deeper scratches out iI can live with a little matte finish, I think the black parts would look good, but idk about the white..
