kjh Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 OK I know this is a Banshee site, but i also know a lot of us who ride banshees also have kids that ride lt 80 as i do. I am leaving for dune trip in 3 days, it will be the maiden voyage of a year long banshee build if I can get to the bottom of this bizarre lt 80 issue. Bear with me this is a bit long but I am highly frustrated ... I have 2 lt 80s. a week ago i started and rode them both. The last couple trips to the dunes i noticed the starter on the yellow one would scream and not turn the motor like the splines were not engaging. wouldn't do it all the time just some of the time. So before this trip i thought i better change out the starter. got an a/m off ebay and installed it. hit the start button, it turned over a couple times and then stopped. Now I just get a click. Figured it was the starter relay, so i pulled the one off the white bike(my other lt80) and installed it, same thing. Put the relay back in the white bike, thought i better check it and now the white bike does the exact same thing as the yellow bike! Baffled at this point I went and got two different a/m relays one from napa and one from autozone. both do the same thing just a slight motor turn and click.(batterys are good!) I tried to test the starters by jumping them direct with a jumper box and i just get a spark, no turn. trying to think of common denominators they both ran and they both were washed by my kids after that, maybe water got somewhere? highly frustrated please help. thank you Quote

gappa38 Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 My little bro years ago was washing our grizzly and thought it would be a good idea to wash the inside of the muffler so he stuck the hose in and let it run for a few mins!!! it did the same thing....motor was unable to turn and just clicked. maybe just pull a drain plug and see if you see any white. I am going to drain it to see if my kids have water in it. after that i may have to pull the starter and bench test it. I have heard these engines may lock up sometimes i pulled the plug and tried to fire and nothing ?? Quote
hawaiianbasshead Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 try starting it with the bike standing on it's rear grab bar like it did an over wheelie. sometimes they flood out. do yourself a favor and get you the pullstarters for BOTH of them or at least one. it's great for when you're having issues and the battery can't crank for as long as it takes to figure out the culprit lol. don't ask, I've had like 3 or so LT80s, got my son a drx90 now. miss the LT80s but after breaking a few cases because the motor is the swingarm I gave up on them lol good luck!
